Noticed on a road trip today in the rain that my wipers were stuttering like hell on the highway. Only 4K miles but 14 month old Bronco that sleeps outside.

Do I really need new wiper blades? The windshield was ceramic coated a year ago and cleaned regularly as of recently with rain x. Not sure if it’s the rainx or blades or the actually wiper mechanism. Never seen anything like this before at the 4K mile mark. The windshield was fairly clean and I did notice spraying the windshield with wiper fluid did fix the problem for about 10 minutes then it went back to stuttering. So I’m assuming maybe the Bronco just has crappy blades from the factory.

No video. They just judder. The blades have a lot of friction and are noisy and skip across the window whenever they sweep. Kind of what you would come across on an old car or one that hasnt had blades updated in many years.

Still work, but definitely not properly. Again, very odd at 4k miles.

Try hitting the blades with some rubbing alcohol.

Think that did the trick. Took clorox wipes on hand to wipe them down.

guess this is something easily overlooked w exposed blades since I would imagine many people are accustomed to recessed blades over the past two decades

In this climate, wiper blades have a short life span. Not short-ish. Short.

Yeah, I'm in Phoenix, thinking one set of blades at the beginning of summer, and one set at the end, because the sun simply destroys anything made of rubber.

The OP is complaining about 14 month old blades ????

Ha! I use Phoenix as my benchmark to remind myself it could be worse, especially in September when I walk outside, and “yup, still Hot.” October? Shouldn’t be, but it’s still hot then, too.
My usual problem is that it rains so seldom, I forget. . . until it’s raining, and then it stops for another six months. Reality, I get a long time out of a set. They don’t work for shit, but I get a long time out of them.

Blades have only seen 4000 miles very few of which were in the rain.

I found the factory installed blades were very cheap and didn’t last. They made it maybe 3-4K miles and I replaced them and have had no problem with the new ones. I used Rainx latitude and have about 6k miles on them with no issues yet.

You know you live in Phoenix when you turn your wipers on for the 1st time in 6 months and discover the blades are now 2 piece and floppin around!
