Recently wheeled in Uhwarrie OHV area and finally witnessed the infamous TIE ROD SNAP!

Tie rod snapped on a Bronco with 4" lift and 37's.

Man wish we coulda seen it happen. But nice to hear someone talk about the design/geometry. Saying that itā€™s because the part is placed at an extreme angle, and then stressed beyond that is something I donā€™t think anyone has really brought up. They just say it broke and itā€™s a weak/poorly designed part.

Now this doesnā€™t explain the guy who was stock and snapped a tie Rod trying to turn around in his driveway šŸ˜‚

I broke a tie-rod on my factory Sas Badlands.

I just finished lifting and putting on 37s, so I'm excited to see how long they last now..

Video was great, looked like a cool group of guys to wheel with. I was asking one of the members who commented they broke while stock. 4ā€ lift definitely is a common cause of breaking.

Took very little, actually. I saw it happen outside the Bronco as a friend was following my spotting. The vehicle was on its skid pulling the rear wheels over a waterfall ledge and the front driver tire caught just right, snapped sideways and sheared the inner tie rod right at the jam nut. It wasn't aggressive driving or an overly difficult obstacle.

Vehicle was in 4L and front was locked since back tires were floating in air. Front wheels were spinning maybe 5mph when it happened. Very anticlimactic. It took so little that I've often wondered if it got damaged earlier in the day somehow.

Luckily I had a spare on me. Now I won't touch a trail without a spare outer tie rod per Bronco.

That was @DaBroncstah. Yes, ā€œheā€ did. šŸ¤£

Iā€™m the guy that broke one at Uwharrie in my stock Black Diamond (well, 33ā€ tires instead of stock 32s).

Yeah, the guy is wrong about it not being a poor design. All vehicles have a few bad designs. It's just part of it.

In understand what he is saying about breaking something else(steering rack). But this is why I put the braces on mine as soon as the 37ā€™s went on. Where he was sure didnā€™t look extreme. In gotta wonder as well if it was weakening from other trail rides as well.
