Have had this trip in the works for nearly nine months now, and finally got to take it with a few good friends, road tripping and camping the whole way up. After a week of driving, nearly 2400 miles through hailstorms, smelly sulfur-scented mudpots and unruly mobs of yellowjackets (thanks southern Utah!) I can say that I can't wait until the next one.
First stop, take the side road rarely taken along the 89a north of the Grand Canyon, passing the Vermillion Cliffs:
Camping in Zion, with a few gratuitous drone shots, and a visit to Big Bend itself
Heading on further up, a stop in the Wasatch Mountains of Utah and then the Grand Tetons. Yes, I had members of my party that did not actually know what Grand Tetons means.
The absolute best way to wake up in the morning:
And finally, the motherlode, the destination
followed by some epic camping in eastern Montana, location undisclosed, with more gratuitous drone shots:
Fun stats for the trip:
Most impressively though, was this, captured while sauntering through Yellowstone at 45-50 mph at 7500 ft. No bs, it was legitimately getting this:
