As an engineer, I can shed some light: you never actually know if a fix completely resolves an issue. You can identify everything about a particular issue down to the atomic structure of a material, resolve that at great expense, and only then realize you caused a completely different issue with your fix.

We have no real indication that the -AB revision was intended to fix the valve issue specifically, but if it was, I would assume they'd want to do a test run with a portion of the production line to make sure there aren't any unexpected issues with the new parts/materials/process before committing 100% of production to an untested process.

George, checkout the sequence#'s too - could indicate different production lines - maybe some lines switched to AB before the others ?
SO, if my engine build was on the cusp of the AB revision, do you folks have some identifier for production lines that might suggest one line was accepting the old, possibly defective parts, and the other line was not? Or are you just suggesting that the AA and AB identifiers relate to different production lines. AND more importantly, do you thin Ford will be willing to pay the monthly service charge for a Garmin inReach satellite communicator? I am serious this time.

All the more reason why Ford should BOTH give each of us AA builds a Garmin inReach satellite communicator and pay for the monthly service charge.

Hi Johnny,
We just don't have any facts and this is all speculative guesswork. BUT, while guessing, if it was my business, I would definitely cut in as many as I could , just as fast as I could. Was it: Use all AA engines up across each rotation??? Was it ...pull the AA's off the line now that we have enough AB's to keep all rotations going? Was it only build the 2.3l, so everything could cutover to AB ASAP? We will never know. I am an armchair MRP/QA guesser , without data.

I have been trying to see when -AA stopped and -AB started as a point of clarity for my own personal build. The more data from the engine stickers that were posted ,coupled with weeks of monitoring everyones blend date with engine builds indicates the absolute narrowing of the window as the gap between engine build and blend dates got super tight. If you pull up the MAP plant and The LIMA engine plant locations , they could have easily been doing multiple deliveries a day to keep all rotations supplied with the latest AB's. Again speculation and my optimistic approach that all would have been done as soon as possible. AS many of you say on here...your mileage may vary. grin.
Regards,
George

Again, we're speculating that -AA is bad, and -AB is good, as far as this dropped valve issue is concerned -- as far as I know we don't have any evidence to claim -AB revisions have been "fixed" and all -AA revisions are "bad", and obviously with FoMoCo being silent on this issue that makes things more difficult.

If we're assuming Ford was knowingly producing engines with higher-than-normal failure rates, then I'm sure it all comes down to bottom lines really. It's more profitable for Ford to continue selling vehicles with 10x failure rates compared to normal, or whatever it may be, than to shut down production altogether and incur massive losses. Shutting down a production line for 80% of the most popular new vehicle configs they've released in the last decade would be catastrophic for Ford as a company.
