Does anyone have a good tool to remove the oil filter on a 2.3L Bronco? The oil filter that is behind the tire. I can reach to remove it but I usually make a mess and scratch up my arm. Is there an extension tool that is perfect for this? Thanks!

Yes a tool like the one above will help a lot, used with ratchet extensions. Here is a video that may also help:

This is EXACTLY how I do it. Skip ahead to the 5 minute mark. TLDR version: 14 flute oil filter wrench on a long socket extension. This exact fit wrench is less than $10 and will be easier to use than the one linked above, which requires some tension on it to grab.

I also use what @BudgetBronco and @BeachTiger uses.

The downside is what fits the Motorcraft filters may not fit other 3rd party filters. But in my case I have three vehicles that all use the same filter, so I just buy the Motorcraft filters in bulk from my dealer (12 in a box).

I remember the days like that.

When I was a kid, my parents had a 1990 Suburban with the 350, took an AC Delco PF35 filter. When dad got his '94 GMC dually, it had a 454 and took the PF1218...which was the PF35 with a built-in check valve, they removed the check valve from the pump. So dad started buying PF1218s in bulk, 12 to a box, and started using the 1218 on the Suburban...redundant check valves don't really hurt anything.

Today I don't think ANYTHING we own takes the same filter. I have like 6 different filter wrenches, as well as 3 different size strap-style wrenches when none of the others fit. And I don't even USE them anymore since we moved because nothing fits in the garage and can be jacked up high enough for me to do an oil change anymore anyway. I need a new garage.

I fold the inner fender back and reach in with a long extension, 3/8” ratchet, and one of those three finger wrenches. Yes it does require resistance to grab but fits multiple size filters. I reach in and hand tighten it. With the inner bent inward out of the way it’s not bad. You really have to hand feed it in there to keep it from getting dirty anyway.

I use a long extension and an end cap filter wrench, get them on sale if you can:

Make sure you match up the right cap wrench with the replacement filter before you remove the factory filter or you could pull a @Squatch and hammer and wrench on it until you deform the oil filter enough that it comes off with a cap wrench with the wrong number of sides, lol. 😂

I also recommend a Fumoto valve and a section of Tygon fuel line to keep the pan draining while you drain the filter into thw same catch pan!

Keep it PG @Tricky Mike  😂

I have one similar to this but I never use it, I find it far easier to reach up from underneath and use only my hand. The key is to never ever let anyone else change your oil and inevitably overtighten it.
I have looked from underneath and I swear I can’t even see the filter from underneath. Maybe I’m looking in the wrong place lol

Buy your Motorcraft filters in bulk from Walmart. Way cheaper. BTW a year ago I ordered seven Motorcraft oil filters from Walmart. They sent me seven cases and charged me for seven filters. I contacted Walmart to try and see how to make this right and they told me to just keep them. I have enough filters to last until 2098. Motorcraft oil is also way discounted at Walmart.

Does Walmart even sell 12 packs?

Last time I bought filters at my dealer it was $64.95... which comes out to around $5.41 per filter. That was couple of years ago at this point, but usually if I'm buying singles they're like $8 - $10 per filter.
