Yeah I'm wondering if I should move the light and ditch the winch. Honestly, the only time the CEL comes on is on long trips when it's very hot. If I'm only city driving it never comes on. I am getting ready to sell it so I want to get it in as good of shape as possible for the new owner.

If you were going to keep it I would say get a ProCal or some other way to read your charge temp in real time to see the before/after of removal, but since your going to sell I would say just remove the light and see if that fixes the CEL light (assuming you go on another trip in the heat).

If it was me I would explain to the new owner the past CEL history, its probable relation to the bumper, etc. Now I'm weirdly honest like that, I would not be in a position of 'have to sell', etc. 🙂

Not wanting to spring for ProCal had used FS Lite and this module to monitor charge temps before and after that and a few other mods. Plus it can clear all your codes before getting to the inspection place if you need to.

Mine is also a crowded front bumper setup but I wasn't going to comment much because I'm non Braptor. And he's selling. But for the sake of anyone else reading, my 2.7L acted exactly like this under load in hot weather until I removed shutters. The buried IC rests right on top of the solid FabFours skid plate I tried to circle in red.

Next time I have it apart the plate will get sent to a local machine shop to have a few 3-4" ventilation holes cut in it.

Wow! The value of this forum never ceases to amaze me! Thanks so much for sending this! I've been struggling with this issue for years. Check out the picture of my setup. I'm going to move the light bar to up above the windshield and see if that resolves the issue.

I wonder if DV8 could have blocked anymore air flow with that design...goodness

I was gonna say - “I don’t think DV8 intended for a light bar to go there, they make lots of aftermarket parts, they aren’t that dumb”

But no… it’s right in the marketing for that bumper. They will even sell it pre-installed They really did do that. I am losing my faith in humanity

Too many of us in the off-road community have way too much faith in the aftermarket. I think it’s pretty obvious there is a lot less forethought, engineering and smarts put into these products than people generally believe.

The truth is it’s hard to improve upon the majority of what the manufacturer does, it would take way more R&D than the average after market company has the ability to $come up with$

My ARB Summit never has issues, of course I took intercooler flow into consideration when purchasing... To the OP, do you have a winch to use or is all of this to look like you crawl when down at the mall?

With that in mind, I would be focused on removing the aftermarket parts. You aren't going to get a bump in the trade-in value. And if selling private party, you rarely will find the buyer at the end of the rainbow that wants what you have done. Return it to stock and sell the aftermarket parts on FB Marketplace or here on the B6G Forum Marketplace.

Maybe the airflow was designed to go with the rest of their components? They have a bit of a cutout under the bumper (seemingly from this pic) but then the plate behind the bumper has some ventilation. However, it seems a bit sparse compared to the amount of ventilation that was covered up.

I have a low mount winch. This type of mount doesn't block airflows, has a pretty decent lower gap. Been on over a year no issues.

Maybe...

Also maybe they are a brand, CAD & eCommerce guys who like to "design" but are not actual engineers who test their products (in either computer simulation or real world wind tunnels) like Ford and every other manufacture do. See:

https://dv8offroad.com/pages/about-us

Is there an actual mechanical/powertrain engineer among them? This might seem harsh (they are a sponsor here I believe) but buyers should be more aware of what they are getting with products like these, and how they may or may not interact with Ford's systems very well.

It all looks cool though

Thinking out loud on this theory but I wonder if its the combination of winch bumper & lights WITH the intercooler/tune (more so on tune). Tune could be on the more "aggressive" side to account for the larger intercooler but Whipple probably set the canned tune based on OEM parameters (ie not taken into account your restrictive air flow set up). You might be able to find a shop to do a custom tune specifically for all your mods and that solve it or might just have to ditch some of the mods as they aren't playing nice with each other.

I feel the same about my FabFours front setup; can definitely notice the diff between it and more engieered-to-Ford-function products out there. I even asked them re cooling problems and they said, Never did any tests, but haven’t heard of any problems. And yet my bumper/skid plate is one big block to IC air. Maybe it doesn’t matter on everyday driving a non-tuned stock weight 2.7L, but heavy and boosted, I definitely experienced temp problems over time due to lack of air flow. Looks cool though!

They probably never tested it with a B-Raptor. My guess is it was designed for a regular Bronco and all they did was check that it would bolt up on the Raptor. Because the Raptor has a bigger engine, it likely restricts airflow just enough to cause an issue (combined with the TX heat). Take the light bar out and you'll probably be good.

Was this winch installed on a "capable" bumper or "modular" or something else? And what winch was it?
