Cant have bad press with the Toyota crowd...74weld received the rack on Monday. Verified the clunking. Put it in a new housing. Shipped out today (Wednesday). Huge props for them stepping up and quick turnaround. Will install this weekend and test.![]()
They didn't say...What was the problem?
I guess that’s better than “it’s supposed to do that. It’s fine as long as there are no check engine lights”They didn't say...![]()
When i tore mine down to inspect, I found there is too much clearance between the pinion and rack-bar teeth. A at least some of the problem is coming from the upper pinion bushingWhat was the problem?
For Raptors... I would only do the 74weld end caps or stay stock. Raptor racks are ~$3k and are not the same as Hoss 3.0. Not exactly sure on differences but there are physical and software differences. Is there any consensus on the non housing upgrade(s) for the Raptor?
Thanks, personal experience with their caps (Stage 1 system) or consensus? Definitely not interested in a noisy, non-streetable or system that has clunks...For Raptors... I would only do the 74weld end caps or stay stock.
I don't. But can't see a downside with them. Won't affect pinion to bar contact so there will be no noise or clunk. Probably the best solution for added strength and no drama. Thanks, personal experience with their caps (Stage 1 system) or consensus? Thanks again. I definitely like the factory idea that the tie rod shall be a fuse protecting against much more costly repairs. Thus if I do the 74W Stage 1 upgrade, I would be looking for little or no upgrade on the tie rods. The Foutz sleeves looks cheap and on point. Still a guess as to whether those preserve the inner tie rod as a fuse...I don't. But can't see a downside with them. Won't affect pinion to bar contact so there will be no noise or clunk. I'd stay with Ford Performance tie rods and add inner sleave for extra support.
Ugh. I’m on my second go around with the 74 Weld rack on my Raptor. For Raptors... I would only do the 74weld end caps or stay stock. Raptor racks are ~$3k and are not the same as Hoss 3.0.
Glad at this point I didn't give away my old HOSS 2.0 rack in case something like this develops. No issues so far (I have the stage 3)...Ugh. I’m on my second go around with the 74 Weld rack on my Raptor.
i had the clunk issue last summer. 74 Weld replaced the housing and swapped the internals from the defective housing (which were my original OEM internals) into the new replacement housing.
now i have a new issue that occurs in full lock to drivers side, otherwise quiet (for the time being). Ford indicated this is an internals problem but won’t warranty for obvious reasons. 74 Welds initial response was i need to get new internals as that’s a Ford parts issue. I know squat about inner workings of the rack, but I’m not convinced that the problem is a failing ford part alone. As I’m unclear what the housing problem was on the first 74 weld housing, how do i know the clunking issue which got exceedingly worse over time, didnt result in my something in the internals failing now?
Anyhow, I’m working through the issue and probably will be going back to stock Hoss 4.0 rack in the interim as i have an upcoming trip.
video for your listening pleasure of the latest issue. note I’m at full stop. only the steering wheel is in motion.
