So, off road, will hill start assist allow you to "rock back", (clutch it roll back and try again) when trying to overcome an obstacle?

On every MT I've driven with hill assist, it only works when you are on an incline, depress the clutch pedal, and put the transmission in gear. In that condition, when you take your foot off the brake pedal, Hill Assist holds it. If the vehicle is in neutral, no hill assist - vehicle rolls back. So, off road, will hill start assist allow you to "rock back", (clutch it roll back and try again) when trying to overcome an obstacle?
That's my issue. To get a second try at an obstacle (heading uphill) I would leave it in a forward gear, roll back with clutch depressed, then engage and try again. On every MT I've driven with Hill assist, it only works when you are on an incline, depress the clutch pedal, and put the transmission in gear. Yep. That would have been nice. So would have been the 6cyl with a manual. And limit on which options you can get with manual doesn't make sense unless they really don't want you to buy the manual. The manual should have been offered with he same options as the auto has available and for every model just like Jeep.FoMoCo copied so many Jeep things (Swing Tailgate, yes I would have preferred a regular Drop Down Tailgate), but didn't choose the Manual E-Brake Leaver.
Hill Assist is fine and dandy, but the Electrical E-Brake isn't. If/When there's an Electrical Issue and the Electrical E-Brake Locks ...... well.... it could be an expensive vehicle recovery if it happens deep into a difficult trail. Why couldn't FoMoCo just have given us the Tried-N-True Manual E-Brake Hand Leaver???? SMH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
