I have a buddy back in Texas that has not told his wife that he's getting a new Bronco. He doesn't post here, that I know of. He's getting a fully loaded 2 door carbonized grey sasquatched Badlands, with a ton of accessories.

He has a company provided truck that is his daily driver, and he plans on parking his Bronco at the office when he gets it, and never bringing it home. Yeah, yeah, I know, I keep telling him that this is no way to have a marriage, but it's his life. Besides our other friends and I get a huge kick out of shenanigans with his wife.

They've got 3 kids ranging in ages 13 to 6. He regularly tells his wife that he has to travel for work, but actually just takes PTO and gets away by himself to go fishing, hunting, the beach, etc. to get away from the family for a while. He's got a great job, and makes a good living, but just misses his single lifestyle every once in a while.

Iā€™m more concerned that my Bronco will find out I have a wife.

Yup my wife helped pick the color. Because of her lack of vision (Legally blind) I think she enjoys our vehicles vicariously through me.

My wife has known about and supported the Bronco from day one (maybe day 2). But a few weeks ago before I placed the order I said "So, how much do YOU think I'll be spending on the Bronco?" She said "Oh I figured it'd be expensive". So I said "what exactly do you think my build is priced at?" The answer: "About $50,000". Whew, crisis averted. It's actually $55k but at least we're in the "rounding error" zone.
In your defense, you did say ā€œaboutā€.

What's the point of being married if that's the case? Half the fun of buying a Bronco is showing it off to those close to you and planning sweet trips together in it...
Yes, my wife and I are both excited for the Bronco and are imaging and planning all of the ways we are going to up our off-road game with it. I can't imagine enjoying it nearly as much if I was only able to enjoy it by myself, and not at all if I had to sneak around and hide it. Like everyone else has said, I can't understand the point of being married in that scenario.

It would be funny if he ends up not being able to get financing on it because his wife secretly has a ton of credit card debt in his name that he doesn't know about.
OMG šŸ’€ here. You win this post!

dude why do I feel like this could be a plot to an 80s Chevy chase movie where heā€™s about to retire and buy the classic stingray corvette heā€™s been saving up his entire life for only to have his happy go lucky wife rack up a bunch of debt on something like back taxes or credit card debt and somehow she tries to unfuck the situation without him knowing?

I canā€™t shut up about it.... But I confess it did take no small amount of courage to raise the issue and a strong constitution to weather and win the fight to get my lovely wife to ultimately acquiesce. šŸ˜šŸ‘

I'm guessing there will be a huge pricey divorce in his future. Maybe she will take the Bronco in the settlement. lol. You should ask your buddy what color he thinks she will like. lol

Funny thread.

I remember it clearly, I was sitting at the island in the kitchen doing nothing and my wife was lIke ā€œhey, itā€™s July 13th and itā€™s 8pm, are you going to watch the Bronco reveal?ā€ Which we did together, then she said before it ended ā€œlooks great, go online and reserve oneā€. I probably wouldn't have such an early res if it wasnā€™t for her.

Now sheā€™s like ā€œenough with the Bronco, jut tell me when weā€™re going to pick it upā€

Okay, so it went like this:

I said "hey, you can now reserve the new Bronco"
She said "What do they look like?"
After showing her she said "Why don't you reserve one?"
I said "I already did four days ago!"

:sneaky:

I was excited about it but my current vehicle is fine. I wanted a Bronco but didnā€™t need it.

Wife said ā€œyoure clearly excited about it, why donā€™t you just reserve one... see what happens, itā€™s still a ways out anywayā€

I said ā€œeh... Iā€™m not sure I can justify it... thereā€™s nothing wrong with my Jeepā€

She said ā€œoh shut up, get yourself the Bronco... and Iā€™d like to help with the down payment as a present when it comes timeā€

And thatā€™s the story of how I ended up with a loaded Badlands on order with Granger.
