Hey all new to the forum as of today. Posted in the Welcome section on how I unexpectedly became a Bronco owner after drooling over them for the past two years but never making an order. Lucked into a new ‘22 on the lot that was an order cancel and traded both my 2019 Ranger and 2017 Mustang for.
Got my first mods done yesterday and lots of goodies ordered.
#1 - USB power cord for dash cam
I have a cheapie dash cam that uses USB micro connection for power. Got the mount stuck onto the windshield with adhesive tape, routed the cord up along the lane keeping camera module, over the passenger visor and then up under the weather seal to the drivers side.
Went down the A pillar under the trim and then up under the dash by the fuse panel. Routed under steering colum and then under trim to center dash console USB port. Except for the 8” or so over the passenger visor, completely invisible install
#2 - 12v Power port at the dash
Picked up a dual 12v receptacle at WM. Attached with 3M molding tape under the climate controls to the right of the USB power port in the center dash console, followed the USB wire above behind the trim piece under the steering column to the fuse box.
Attached a good heavy gauge ground wire to a bolt connect two brackets near the fuse panel.
Ran over to O’Reilly’s for a fuse tap for the positive side only to find they don’t have the tiny ones for now it is temporarily hard wired to the battery after punching a wire through the unused grommet above where the big harness comes through the firewall above drivers feet.
*Side note* - The Bronco is SOOOO much easier to dig into for the wiring and such than the Ranger and Mustang were. My wife’s Escape and my 2015 F-150 (traded in for Ranger) were also PITA for fishing wires.
I was dreading trying to get wires routed for #1 and #2 but it was a piece of cake. Actually looking forward to getting the Ham radio and antenna install going.
#3 - Radar Detector
Got my Escort 360 Max installed, had a power tap to replace a damaged on in the Mustang that I never got around to replacing so used it on the Bronco to tap into power off the rear view mirror.
#4 - Rodent Annoyer
Both my 2015 F-150 and 2019 Ranger ended up with Rodent damage
In the F-150 they chewed up a wire harness under the hood for the fuel injection. On the Ranger they got into the dash and chewed up a write harness related to AirBag. Repairs ended up being over $1000 each (thank goodness for insurance!)
After the Ranger incident, I found some units to install under hood that flash multi color leds and make high frequency sounds at random intervals meant to scare rodents away. They seem to work, no issues on any of my three vehicles over the past two years. Before turning in the Ranger on the trade I pulled the unit out for install on the new Bronco.
#5 - Phone Mag Mounts
Actually the first thing I did - stripped the mounts out of my Ranger before trade in. New 3m Molding adhesive and stuck on dash. Drivers side has magnetic charger that is currently plugged into power port at center of windshield.
#6 - Door handle pockets
Had similar in the Mustang, close off the bottom of the inside door handle making a convenient little storage spot. Quick peel and stick with 3M tape.
#7 - Rear facing camera (pending)
Both my trades had dash cams. One has already been installed in the Bronco, I have a second one I am thinking about installing in the cargo area facing out the rear window.
Ran out of time today, but will investigate that further tomorrow.
I have ordered and am currently awaiting delivery on:
Trailer hitch/wire harness - should be here next week
Weather Tech Mud Flaps - arrives with the hitch
Front/Rear/Cargo area TPE floor mats and Rear Seat back panels - should be here Friday
Center Console Storage Tray - Thursday
Screen protector for that beautiful 12” LCD Touchscreen - Thursday
Ordering this week:
Bug/rock hood deflector
On the list but down the road a bit:
A-Pillar light mounts/lights
Ham Radio/Antenna install
Cargo area storage vault
Contemplating the following - input/experience/ideas welcome
Cargo area LED lighting - thinking the self-stick light “tape”. I used it in the trunk of my Mustang and it worked great. Tapped into trunk light circuit on the Mustang. Thinking I could tap into the little cargo area light on the passenger side to power the tape.
Hood Struts - I hate the prop bars!
Soft Top cargo area struts (see above )
Fabricating a modular easy in/out “cargo floor” that can be laid down to provide a level surface from just behind front seats to tailgate when rear seats are down.
That’s about it for now. Would like to switch to a hard top down the road if they get the issues sorted out and they become available.
Really looking forward to some adventures with the new rig!
12v to cabin for lighter socket
Radar Detector and Dash Cam
SO much room! Very easy to work in and get wires routed.
Rodent annoyer zip tied to air plumbing. Rotated it down under the tube after pic
