I can relate, the older I get. How about you 1980's babies?

I'm a early 60s baby...guy makes very good points, I certainly can relate. More important is his well stocked whiskey bar🄃

I'm a late 60's baby and this is one of the reasons I sold my '69, was to the point that taking it to the next level was going to be EXPENSIVE. And one of the reasons that both of our 6G's have been kept virtually stock.

Right on. Guy is šŸŽÆ

Lots of people, dudes included, just like to go shopping to shop. I bought a very capable vehicle right off the truck. Unless I *need* it, I’m not buying it. What have I needed so far? A compressor, deflators, a bottle jack, a rear shelf, a Garmin inReach, a shovel. Pretty much done.

I'm early 60s guy too and can relate to his sage advice. made me think how often stock OEM vehicles hold value so well too. He gives good counsel for those considering 37s - lots of implications need to be thought through.

Exactly, I think it has gotten to the point where people are like oooo look what I have, rather than actually having a need/continual use for it. We have a family friend who bought a Bronco. After they were all done saying what they got on it, I finally said ok, where in Southern NJ are you going to go rock climbing with all that you have? No response. I'm just here with mine which is basically stock suspension and can get through anything here with 4 low.

Where did you get your shovel? I've been trying to find a good quality small shovel not one of those Chinese folding kind.

What’s also crazy (to me) is how modest the advantage is that 37s give you over 35s in the wild. Is ground clearance really such an issue? I’ve done some gnarly routes and the challenges rarely make me think, ā€œMan, I wish I had an extra inch or so of clearance.ā€ Sure, if you’re doing a major lift as well, different deal, but then you’re making this guy’s point and you’re rebuilding your whole suspension. I don’t plan on going pro anytime soon and running King of the Hammers, so it’s hard to justify the added weight and system stress, let alone the budget hit.

I’ll be the first to agree that I think 4DRs often look better with 37s, but seems like a very expensive and involved upgrade, which will likely void your warranty, if the motivation is primarily cosmetic. But that’s just me, some people spend $1500 on decals. Me, I’d rather upgrade my camping gear.

Excellent video! Love his bar btw. I tend to be a sucker for anything that's well designed and well made.

I almost bought the Ford tool it by Motley when it first came out. But then I got to thinking. How many of those tools would I actually use on the road? What kinds of repairs would I actually be making? What spare parts would I have to carry to justify carrying such a comprehensive tool kit?

In short, nice tool kit, but not a need, just a want. I have almost every tool I need in my garage, they just don't say Ford on them and aren't in a nice roll.

I decided to give careful thought to what might actually happen on the trail, keeping in mind my intended use. Not what everyone says will happen. And carry specific tools for those events. For example, a wrench to remove the skid plates. Still working on that list.

His message is right on track, good video for the younger guys to help save them some time and money if they listen.

I am nearing 80 and bought my bronco to go 4 wheeling in comfort…I realized it would need armor,a lift and tires at the offroadeo…so yeah, it had problems that needed solving…most of the additions were to improve off roading for me and I don’t regret them…there are many vehicles that are fine off the showroom for their purpose, but I have also modified a lot of vehicles to better fit my use…the wife’s bmw is all stock and fine but my bronco and model A are far from it…for real reasons…party on!
