(1k quote) - Best/cheapest option for windshield

I just got a 1k quote to replace the front windshield from safelite. My dealership is trying to find a source to get one from. Don’t have a quote from them yet.

update: just got a quote from my Ford dealer for ~$900 and three to five day delivery.

That jacks up the cost of a windshield DRASTICALLY. $1K would be fairly cheap, if so.

My wife's Palisade was $1900 after a hail storm. It has the lane centering and all that jazz that had to be recalibrate along with replacement.

Replaced windshield in Transit (750.00) with camera, auto headlights auto wipers, it required recalibration of cameras after install. Was hoping these would be somewhere other than in windshield in Bronco

Was under the impression every single bronco has at least one front facing camera for auto highbeams and autonomous emergency braking, and the lane centering just adds another.

Ii don’t have the lane keep assist but I believe all Broncos have the accident avoidance cameras.

Eesh. I didn't even take into consideration that stuff.. I guess all of us take the hit regardless of what trim package we ordered. Shame that the Bronco window is just BEGGING for chips as well due to how vertical it is.

What about insurance? Try Safelite, dealers always charge more. Last 2 windshields I went through were paid for by insurance via Safelite. My Explorer needed camera recalibration after the install, which the Safelite tech did. Front windshield in my Taurus was $340 the first time, before I opted for glass coverage. Free the second time. When I replaced the rear window of my Taurus a few years before that, a dealership quoted me $800. Safelite did it for for less than $300.

Yep, top camera complicates things considerably. And if someone does it and doesn't recalibrate the camera, it'll go *poof* in 3 years...fortunately had extended warranty, first time ever used and made 4:1 on it right there. Camera was 3k alone.
