There are options now, but you need to swap in an unlocked ECU. All of the current companies offering it require the swap and tuning to be down in house as well.
I believe you are correct, though I just spoke with a tuner and they said HP tuners is working on a remote tuning solution.
That would be great, I would be inclined to custom tune but the solutions as of now are not feasible for me, driving to 5star or ecm swapping to an f150

Livernois, 5 Star, and soon ZFGRacing. They just started beta testing on Broncos. I assume others are not far behind. There's also one shop in Canada that does it that was the first. Can't remember their name.

The Ford Performance tune is not enough ?
The fp tune is EXTREMELY conservative leaving a ton on the table. I’ve tuned so many diesel trucks over the last 20 years ish there’s no way I’m paying an inept dealer tech an absurdly inflated fee to do a simple 15 minute ecm flash not to mention the fact that more often than not they screw up and register it in their name (or dealers) and you can’t get updates, if that’s all that’s available then that’s probably what I’ll buy mainly for the trans tuning but that hasn’t been released yet for the 24’s either
My dealer just installed the fp tune yesterday on my wife’s 24 wildtrack. I will give an update when I pick it up next week. Although I can’t compare because we haven’t taken delivery yet
