2024 Badlands sqautch. Also a knock at idle in gear. No noise in neutral or park. Took it to dealer. Dealer said it was normal. I made them log it on a service order to cover my a—. Mine has 5500 miles on it. Never heard it when I purchased the vehicle and somehow it’s now normal

Has anyone else noticed and "engine like rod knock" when you are stopped with the transmission in gear ( forward or reverse doesn't matter) knock changes with rpm until it goes away or occurs to fast to distinguish over 1200 rpm. The knocking sound instantly goes away while in Park or Neutral

Dealer couldn't find the source of the noise, said they coal hear it from the engine right through to the transfer case, they referred it to dealer support.

Dealer support asked them to find a vehicle with same drivetrain and compare, apparently that bronco made the same noise

Ours is a Black Diamond and has rubber floor with little insulation, so maybe noisier than one with carpets.

Has 30,000 km on it and hasn't got any worse so probably not anything serious

any one else noticing this noise?
Try thicker oil. Stealerships are well known to use barrel oil of weight that fit most vehicles they serviced. Probably 5w20.... :(

Same here. 24 Wildtrak. Sound when in gear. No sound in neutral. 8000 miles. I’m gonna schedule a visit for early next month.

Let us know what the dealer said? Somebody gonna find the issue. I’ve gone as far as crawling under and prying the access cover to check torque converter nuts for being loose. All were tight.

I think it may be trans related. But I’ll post what the dealer says.

I can barely hear it at 500 rpm idle in gear in cold weather. I've never heard it previously but I might not have been paying attention since it's so low. I had an old 93 Z28 that had some piston slap after the oil started to get a little old. It would always go away after an oil change.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but has anyone everyone found out what this is or if it’s normal? My ‘24 Badlands V6 has had the same driver side tapping but only at idle after the engine is warm.

I don't know if this is related but I have what is sort of a rhythmic light knock at idle. I did not have this until I installed a micron bypass filter and mounted it between the fuse box near the fire wall on the driver side. I just consider it noise from the oil pump. Since I mounted the filter to the chassis, some of that noise is propagated so I can barely detect it.

I am not sure it is actual noise from the oil pump but possibly noise resulting from pulsation of the oil pressure at idle. Once the rpms go up the pulsing frequency is high enough that it is not detectable or just levels out. After around six months, I rarely even notice it without trying to detect it. I have seen on another post about this happening with installation of a bypass filter.

It is possible Ford engineers found a way to mask the pulsing oil pressure sound at idle and some engine tolerances are such that it it still heard. Some people have better hearing than others too.
