To get an understanding of how the 2021 Ford Bronco will stack up against the undefeated Jeep Wrangler off-road, I had to get nerdy. I interviewed the Bronco’s Chief Program Engineer and Vehicle Engineering manager, reached out to other engineering experts in the auto industry, visited a Jeep dealership to snap photos of underbody hardware, and pored over every new Bronco image I could find on the internet. I went searching for nuggets. Here’s what I learned.

I remember hearing that its coilovers all around? maybe thats only the bilsteins?

That picture is the front axle of a Wrangler. Bronco has coilovers front and rear.

I see some real potential for lift kits down the road in the aftermarket realm. Big limit will be those CV angles when the suspension drops out. Otherwise, everything appears to have beef and support where needed. As long as the rocks don't bash this control arm mounts.

Only news here is the forged aluminum LCAs. Which to me is interesting since the ZR2 uses cast iron LCAs.

Heard somewhere - maybe in this article - no drain plug on the rear diff. Guess I’ll be swapping for an aftermarket cast cover that has one.
