GMC will initially sell the Hummer EV in flagship Edition 1 guise. This model will come standard with three electric motors producing no less than 1,000 hp and according to GM-Trucks, the electric pickup will tip the scales at 9,046 lbs (4,103 kg). If true, that would mean it is roughly 700 lbs heavier than a GMC Sierra 3500HD in crew cab form with dual rear wheels.

It's really astonishing that we are getting an electric hummer at all. It gets me when people swear/shrug off electric vehicles despite it clearly being the future (whether that's 10 years from now or 100... it's inevitable). Because as the hummer and Ford f150 lightning clearly show, the market WILL adjust to any inhibiting external factors. Capitalism at its finest.

There could be a government mandate that cars run on trash and garbage, and some company will find a way to build a DeLorean.

@IDyeti beat me to it, but it is HUGE! Looks like not quite as big as an H1, but close to as wide!

Both times I saw one in person (I live near GM proving grounds), the width is what stood out to me. Huge presence on the road. Honestly looked like a tank was coming at me.

I know there are some that say never, but the bigger argument I think is electric vehicles are not there yet. A lot of issues to be dealt with. Autonomous driving vehicles are also coming and will probably become a mandate that you can't drive yourself in the future. Driving will have to be done on a track or designated area.

As far as weight goes, comparing to the H1 is still making it super heavy. H1 was mostly steel and made for the military. Humvees and H1s only difference was in the finishing side. Both built side by side and went to different factories for finishing touches like the interior amenities. How much steel will be in the new hummer? If it is batteries (most likely) that is an insane amount of battery. It could make the H1 look cheap to maintain once you have to swap those batteries out.
