It's clearly not due to abuse, I can't imagine what grounds they would try to deny it. The only damage to the reservoir is from it falling off my Bronco.
Am I the only one seeing the rust? Am I crazy?

See all the parts of the reservoir that AREN'T rust? They're the parts that face the outside of the assembly.

See where the rust is, that's the part that is supposed to be sealed to the shock body, it's not supposed to be exposed to the elements.

I guess I'm the crazy one. Ignore the second picture where the rust is on the internal mating surface. The first picture clearly shows rust.

You seem to think that isn't rust. Good luck convincing the service advisor.

Bring coffee along with the donuts.

Rust or not this should be repaired under warranty. Mechanical parts that fail due to corrosion within the warranty period should be replaced.

So I had this issue on my 21 badlands non-sas 52,000 miles in. I had it off-road but with shock skid plates. The dealer saw it and said there was no way I did it. They order the rear left shock. When they went into fix it, they realized the rear driver was leaking as well, and the shock mounts were messed up. So they ordered all those on my extended warranty cost me $100 for deductible. The dealer service said someone told him they shouldn't cover it, but because of the other troubles I have had they would cover it, because they knew I didn't do anything to them. The shocks were rusted and reservoirs had fallen off. I have Adventure Zone spacer lift, and that seemed like it about hurt me. This is my only ride, and basically rode without shocks for 7,000+ miles. Had a trip from WV to Fl planned, I found every bad section of road.

So it stopped raining, I went out to check the passenger's side.. They're both missing! (I thought the issue started before where I found the reservoir yesterday, so one went and then the other)

Passenger side:

IMO, if the reservoir is still hanging on and there are no signs of impact, it should be covered under base warranty. We had a '21 Escape in yesterday with both rear shocks leaking and was covered. Surely to shit you can send them some pics and at least get the thing ordered so it's sub 2 hour visit once they can get you in. Signs of impact are going to be the biggest factor. We've seen trim fly off, ran the claim knowing we didn't have the old part if Ford called it but the writeup clearly stated part came off while driving. We didn't have issues with Ford paying but a lot is judgement.

If they wrote it up like, "Customer states he noticed a puddle of oil near his left rear wheel and now suspension feels loose." Tech write up, "verified oil leak near left rear found oil leaking from left rear coil over, jounced left rear of vehicle and did not notice any dampening. Remove left rear wheel, inspect for damage, none found, remove coil over assembly from vehicle, mount in compressor and remove spring, transfer spring and related components to new shock, replace all one time use fasteners (top shock nut, 3 top hat nuts, lower coil over bolt), reinstall assembly, torque all fasteners, clean off oil residue, test drive, OK."

Ford only shows shock labor 18125A for 1.0 so they will need to use M time like MT5560 for the time to swap spring, bumper and other stuff on the new one, probably .5-.7 depending on the tech. Maybe a little time for diag and cleanup depending on how good the warranty admin is but total of about 2 hours.
So I asked my service department if they could order the parts in advance of my appointment on the 21st, they told me to call the parts department. I asked if I was ordering the parts if I would be expected to pay for them and was given a "non answer" answer, so I guess I'm stuck waiting until they look at it.

*edit* Well I called my dealer, the shocks were ordered Friday when the Bronco was dropped off by the tow truck company. Coming from two different warehouses, but they expect they will be in hopefully before end of the week.

Repair will be covered under warranty.
