I tried all of these steps multiple times with no luck.

I am thinking maybe my new fob needs a fresh battery? Maybe my spare fob was shipped without a battery.

I found the instructions in the infotainments manual. I will try looking up the directions in my manual.

I couldn't find anywhere that allows me to put the vehicle in "spare key programming enabled"....I saw this on another spare program fob thread. https://www.bronco6g.com/forum/threads/additional-key-fob.71554/post-1893520

You won't get a "spare key programming enabled" notification. At least I didn't. I wasn't sure everyone went OK until I used the spare key to start the Bronco. Then I got a successful programmning indication.

Here's my write up on another thread.

Thank you. Did you go remove the two programmed fobs to a remote location in order to start with the new fob?
I am trying the final step (with foot on the brake) press the on/off ignition button. I was following the “keep all doors closed” directive.

At this point I am testing the batteries in the new fob (which might be dead) .

I checked the suffix code again. My codes are identical on factory and spare fobs.

I read somewhere (another spare fob thread) that the vehicle needs to have “remote programming enabled “. It is on by default but can be changed.
last week I had my dealer program a keyless entry pad for me. Maybe part of this process switched the remote programming to disabled.

I had all three fobs in the Bronco so I could easily switch from one to the other. I think the Bronco looks for a fob in the backup slot before it looks for fobs in other locations.

The Bronco will notify you if the fob battery is low. The Bronco should start if the fob has a low battery. That's the reason for the backup slot. The Bronco can provide enough power to read a fob with a low battery. Not sure about programming a fob with a low battery.

I did not have "remote programming enabled." Not sure how to do that. The manual makes no mention of it.

Thank you for you help and feedback. I really appreciate it.

I will stop by my dealer this afternoon to see if they have any thoughts. I am still determined to DIY instead of handing them another $80.

As I've said in other posts. It took me three tries. The first two times programming didn't take. But I didn't try starting the Bronco. Only after I used the third fob to start the Bronco did the programming take. It's an essential step.

Holy moly it finally worked!
It took me about 20-30 tries.

I think what finally worked was the fob buttons down and the key remote oriented with the unlock button to the rear (owners manual says “buttons up and unlock button positioned to the front of the vehicle)

in my 24 Everglades the passive key backup position is tapered at one end (just like the fob is tapered).

Good luck out there to the diy fob programmers. Keep trying. You will eventually get it.

thank you @CalvinT for the help. @Sunday Money your “cliff notes helped me” thanks for the layman’s terms. I appreciate your help! Thank you.

Now to go get my blank cut and put one of these places in a safe spot in the house.

1 more Bronco owner with a spare key. Had the key cut with the China connection for $10, works fine. Programming the key was a little trickier as you have to do it all in less than 30 seconds. Once I put a timer up that I could watch, realized I needed to speed things up. Programming success!

Using a timer is great advice. 30sec go fast!
