Paint it matte black and it will look 1000 times better. That being said, I’d take the literal 2 mins to setup my pop-up tent or just sleep in the back vs. mess with any rooftop tent. The cons waaaaay outweigh the pros to me but that’s just my .02

I have been thinking about doing just this kind of project (with steel, however, as I don't have a TIG welder -yet).

I am not a huge fan of the hitch mount as only rear support. Front lightbar mount is probably okay for a couple hundred pounds of load?

Getting ideas from the options below:

Gobi has some interesting attachment points both front and rear-and an interesting tilt function (300lb max load) :
https://gobiracks.com/product/ford-bronco-4door-stealth-rack-soft-top/

zRoadz is using the lightbar mounts (265lb max load):

JCR is using flat bar/sheet instead of tube. (200bl max load) - Lightbar and rear quarter panel mounts have this shifted forward enough to allow cargo access (flip up of back of top):
https://www.jcroffroad.com/product/BR6RK-ST-F-4D.html

DV8 is doing something similar to JCR, but longer (no flip up of back of top) 200lbs:

One thing to note: Only the Gobi and Z Roads allows soft top functionality after removing the cross bars with the quick disconnects.

First off congrats on creativity.

Second what benefit does the RTT provide that could be accomplished by just sleeping in the rear of the bronco?

My personal thought is to sleep in the bronco or a tent as needed and get a swing away hitch carrier for any large gear.

Finished her maiden voyage, over a week in mountains. Rack worked perfect for strength, hit some big bumps and hard corners.
However, as pointed out, improvements need to be made for v1.

-Widen rear to use tailgate
-Figure out AL pipe bending for smooth look
-Add bars from top to rear fender mounts for extra stability and MOLLE panels
-Shorten front blocks to lower rack
-Black paint/coat

I appreciate everyone's feedback, it's going to help greatly improve my setup on a budget. 🤙
