Man what a pain though. Getting all the bolts out with every single one being locktite’d. I had to break every one loose with a ratchet and a T45 torx and then I could buzz them off with my impact driver.

Used Raptor1k wheel paint from auto zone. Also the blend 3m scuff pad. That made quick work of the factory finish and made it perfect to spray with the 1k, no primer.

Huge pain in the ass to clean them, then scuff then clean again then paint. But they all came out awesome. I’d do it again if I have to. Total cost was $27 all from auto zone. Also I was lucky enough to get all 5 wheels completely finished black under the rings. I know some weren’t all the way finished.

Looks great. I had mine powder coated black for a similar look - It really completes the look of the wheels, IMO.

I would have went that route, but even bringing them in all my local coaters wanted $300++. And honestly the three closest to me had HORRIBLE google reviews. Lots of 5 star generic reviews, and then 1 star paragraph reviews. I figured for the $30 or so it would take to try, it was worth it vs losing $350 on a shit job or having the shop take weeks and weeks to do them. If they dont hold up or I damage one wheeling, I will just repaint the damaged one or do the distance and get the powder coated.

I did attempt to paint mine and spent the time to prep them like you mentioned - However I guess I didn't prep them good enough (or I did a crappy job, as I'm impatient) and was not happy with the results.

That's the moment they went out for powder coating :ROFLMAO:

Nice job! I took mine off to powder coat and they wanted more to sand blast them than to paint them. Quoted me $250 just to blast them. I think I’ll do what you did, looks awesome!

I can’t believe some of these companies are still in business. Those quotes are ridiculous!

I got mine sand blasted and powder coated for $125($25 a ring) last August. I dropped off the rings when the business opened and they called me that day to come pickup.

I had mine powder coated at A2Z Sandblasting & Powder Coating in Ringgold, GA if anyone is interested or lives close enough to drive.

Did the same with mine (same paint even), stayed away from powder coat as it would make touch-up's very difficult. This way I just paint as needed.

I got mine powder coated and it was $250. I did a matte black on the rings for some contrast to the gloss wheel.

Do you think it'll buff out? 😉
I'd recommend a good powder coat, it finally took a good ding on a climb to show damage.

That will absolutely buff out. With 100 grit sandpaper. lol.

I agree, rock blast looks way better than sand blast. Gives it that "well used" look.

The $64 question is.... how difficult was it removing, and re installing the little Torx screws ?
