Accuracy of “Miles to Empty” on dashboard

I've owned 5 different BMWs and all of them were scary accurate.

My 2004 330i and my Bronco are both similarly accurate. I have never run out of fuel when I have "miles remaining" for either vehicle (no matter how low the number).

The BMW shows "--" when I go too far below zero, and have yet to run out of gas. I think I have gone around 5 miles after the "--" appeared.

Yes officer I know I was doing 25 over the posted limit but I need to hurry and get to the gas station before I run out of gas....

2 door bronco here. Yesterday I had 8 miles of range left when I pulled into the gas stat and when I filled up it took about 16.5 gallons.
