I place Rockauto orders for all of my vehicles so the shipping is reasonable. For example, the one of my vehicles needs something, I look at my maintenance schedule for the next 3 months for all of my vehicles and make one large purchase.

Yes, if you are only buying one item, it is not really worth it. But that shipping price is not ridiculous. That is a normal shipping price. Other online retailers, and even your local store, are jacking up the prices and giving you free shipping, or they are jacking up the price to pay for their building costs.

Is the engine air filter custom for the Bronco? I’m looking up the oem part number and nothing else comes up for any other car. I’m so used to Toyota/Hondas sharing a ton of parts with other cars. Makes it easier to find parts once the car is 12+ years old.

As someone with a lot of experience in the desert, off-road, SxS community, I would very much steer clear from K&N filters. A lot of dust and debris get past those. I've seen a lot of dusted motors in my SxS community. Instead try S&B. Check'em out, and they have stock replacement cleanable filters.
