Another Upper Control Arm Thread

Howdy,

There are tons of options for UCAs and wanting to narrow down my options. I off-road in the Rockies and sometimes my trails can be rather muddy in the spring and then very dusty and dry during the summer months. Wanting a UCA that is low to no maintenance and quiet.

What front UCA would you all recommend? My local off-road shop said a lot of the manufacturers make the UCA in the same factories and just brand their products so their are a lot of similarities and said to stay away from uni balls due to noise and steering feedback. They recommended tubular style arm with moog ball joint instead of stamped boxed steel control arm. Such as a Readylift or ADS. Any other options to consider?

Thanks saw those, however some folks had problems with the coils hitting arm depending on shocks and the delta joint is rather expensive to replace.

Interesting, I have fox 2.5s and don't have that issue, do you have a link to that conversion?

These are the specs you should consider when changing UCA. That way you know exactly what kind of alignment you will achieve. Not everyone provides this. This is from Tom’s offroad posted above.


Technical Specs

• Designed for lift heights of 2-4"
• Billet 6061 T6 aluminium
• Wheel alignment target at 3" lift are as follows:
  • Target Camber: -0.5 degrees +/- 0.5
  • Target Caster: 4 degrees +/- 1
• Lifts higher than 3": Negative camber and caster will be reduced slightly
• Lifts lower than 3": Negative camber and caster will be increased slightly

Most all the aftermarket UCAs have the same alignment specs/changes…if ya want low maintenance/quite get ones with stock type bushings and joints…lightness/weight is also an issue (unsprung weight)…the stock units are very light cast aluminum and I haven’t heard of any breaking…the zone ones I had are cast steel and very heavy (they are for sale)…ProComp ones I have now are tubes and only a little lighter….I haven’t Noticed a difference…too cheap to spring for aluminum ones but if ya do high speed stuff the weight savings (if there is much) may make a difference…I don’t think spending big on UCAs makes much difference…but I have no real data for ya…good luck!

Recently been looking at JBA control arms. The ball joints have 90 degrees of articulation and are easily replaceable with no press. Grease zerks for ball joint and doesn’t require loosing the control arm to grease the bushings. The arms are really popular in the Toyota world. I might pull the trigger.

Balljoint and replacement parts are also cheap.

I bought jba control arms. Best customer service I've had, product was stout. Price was great.

At the end, I was about to get into spec just barely with OEM arms, so I returned. I'm using 6112s at the highest setting which gave about 1.7" front lift
