Is there a way (other than perhaps Forscan) to have the parking brake automatically engage when shifting to park?

thanks

Assuming you have an Auto trans, why even use a parking break?

Well, yeah, I don't want my Bronco to break when I park it.

But, a parking brake is beneficial on all systems. You don't necessarily want the parking pawl on an AT to bear all the stress of preventing the car from moving--be it on a hill or being towed or whatever. Brakes are intended for the purpose of preventing the car from moving, and are overall much better for the purpose.

The only option would be forscan, but I’m not sure if that’s possible of doing it or not.

Who knew? In 30 years of driving, I’ve never used a parking break on an A/T. Guess I’m lucky none of my cars/trucks have wandered off!
Have you ever had difficulty taking one of your A/T cars out of park?

That would be your parking pawl being stressed.

Want to avoid that? When you park, first put it in neutral and apply the parking brake. Release the brake pedal, to let the car settle into the parking brake. Then put it into park.

Did you use a parking brake instead?

Back when I was a kid, mom used to have me go start her car (1977 Mercury Cougar XR7) for her to warm it up on cold mornings. One day I had started the car and went back inside, well started to go back inside that is. Before I got all the way to the front door I heard a noise and turned just in time to see her car just finish rolling backwards down the driveway, then across the street and into the neighbors driveway, turn slightly and back into a tree and fence. Despite the gear-shift lever being in park it had engaged reverse (worn parking linkage apparently - it was 16 years old). It had missed the neighbors car by inches and most of the damage was to the fence, the rear bumper barely had a scratch.

Needless to say, I got a hell of a lecture about using the parking brake and had to help fix the fence.

Spelling matters !!!
In this case not using the park BRAKE meant the car made the fence BREAK.

My Gladiator slams the vehicle into park anytime you open the door with the vehicle in gear. Which sounds like a good safety feature but in practice - it’s a PITA!

First time it got me, I was stopped for gas and pulled a little too far forward. Hoped in the rig to just back it up a couple feet, put it in gear, started moving and then SLAM - rig shifts to park and about threw my face into the steering wheel.

You can imagine how much fun it is when hooking up to a trailer and doing the dance of getting out, making an adjustment, hopping back in to back up again.

To each their own on the importance of using the parking brake. But logic tells me that, if you are the kind of person who believes always setting the brake is important, than you don’t need the vehicle to do it for you.

And, if you are not, you don’t WANT it!

We already have way too many nanny lawyer mandated “features” in our Broncos for my liking.

In 30 years, I've used the parking brake every time... or is it 60% of the time?

Sometimes, though, my Bronco automatically sets the parking brake... it's a manual transmission, so maybe that has some affect on it? The electronic parking brake means that Ford can do an automatic engagement and I swear it's done it in my Bronco, but I have no objective proof.

People, whose cars I get inside, who don't use their parking brake infuriate me. It's like not putting your shopping cart back or in a cart corral...
