I wouldn't be surprised if they were playing around with the torque converter lockup to help the auto crawl really well offroad. An unlocked torque converter is essentially a CVT.

I would caution against counting out the Sasquatch pack with the matter of fact comments from some of the others here, even though they're coming from a good place.

Do the math.

You're in Alaska, which is hilly to say the least and rocky, then add snow = off road heaven! Jokes aside, you also want the gearing upgrade that comes with Sasquatch along with the other upgrades.

Sure, you can do all of this in the aftermarket, but the cost on top of this already expensive vehicle is probably more than most people realize. Do it all yourself and we're talking around $4K out of pocket, maybe more because I'm not including labor.

Remember that you need 5 tires. BF Goodrich MTs at 35in alone are about $322 each from TireRack.com. Add an extra $75 or so per for Alaska I think. At this point you're at $2K.

Now add 5 wheels, Steelies are cheaper, but if you go for some style, that's another $1500 or so.

Move on to gearing, that'll be another $600-$800 maybe, never done it, but remember a guy talking about doing it to his JL in order to fit 37s.. Not sure if this included labor, but I'm sure someone can do this cheaper or themselves if able.

(Edited in). Forgot to bring up that I'm not sure which axle size comes with the base pack. If you run 35s on the standard axle, you're pushing it. If you're moving up to 37s, not even sure if the Dana 44 is good enough for serious off road at that tire size. Without Sasquatch, you may have other suspension parts to upgrade. The mall crawlers and poseurs probably have no idea what I'm talking about here or why it's important, but the trail runners reading here do. This can cost a little or a ton (Like $4K for a total suspension upgrade from FOX, ICON, TeraFlex, etc).

All in all, pretty pricey. I know some will choose this route, but the auto will crawl as well, just using some of the computers or an experienced driver. No judgement either way; nothing wrong with easier, it's called Future!

If you want the manual, go for it and build your own, just know the potential costs going in. Never been to Alaska, but last I checked, not much desert running, so going fast may not be the priority up yonder.

If you arent set on manual, the reason autos dont have the 'crawler' gear is because they do not need it. There is no clutch you have to slip like in a manual to keep speed down. The auto in 4lo and 1st gear will move plenty slow and the brake can do the rest. It wont be any less capable than the manual.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say they will offer the Badlands Sasquatch with a manual. Just a gut feeling and a PR move to say, "see we were listening.."
I would bet that does happen....just the fact that the communications dude from Ford on Twitter (Mike Levine) replied "stay tuned" when asked about it, means it most likely will happen.

the A10 has these additional options you dont get on the MT.

Trail Control™, Trail Turn Assist, Trail One-Pedal Driving
That last one, One-Pedal driving, is on the 2.7L only.

Yup, that's where I'm reading the tea leaves. He's made multiple little clues that says its a good chance. If it was not happening, I'd think he just wouldn't acknowledge the questions.

Are we sure? I thought it requires the auto, just not specifically the engine. I need to double check this.

It's tough to admit that as a middle aged guy I am more interested in it being a mall crawler than a hard core off road capable beast. But that's exactly what I want. I want it to look good, be capable of basic trail riding/mall crawling, without dropping a lot of $$$ for all the admittedly amazing upgrades for off road capability. But I won't even try to pretend mine will be doing any hard core off road stuff.

A BD on 33's will likely meet that need at a much more affordable price point. But as you point out I don't think the suspension/gearing will well tolerate 35's with the 2.3 pushing it.

its on the spec pdf sheet for that one. Requires 2.7L engine and 10-speed automatic transmission

Yeah, I had not paid that much attention since I’m fixated on the manual.... granted I have no issues going with the 2.7/A

Would like everyone’s opinion on my thought process...after reviewing everything I’ve come to badlands edition, w/ 4 door, cyber Orange, v6 auto, Hard top, high package and b and o sound system If possible.

I am a family man and new To off road vehicles for the most part. 90% of my driving will be on the road and hope to start off-roading as a hobby the rest of the time. my questions are following.

1) will the road driving quality be comfortable? Main reason I picked badlands is because it comes w 33 AT tires w most squash upgrades. I’m assuming this is my best bet in terms of comfort.

2) will rubber flooring create more noise carpet or negligible?

3) compared to leather how does vinyl compare in terms of comfort, fit and finish?

Nothing wrong with mall crawling and doing light trails, or trying camping or just doing more of it, great to hear you'll be willing to take in into some dirt.

Thing is about off roading, you don't build for the usual stuff you do, you build for the worst you'll possibly ever face. If you don't, you'll get stuck and a recovery is expensive unless you wheel with guys who have gear. If you break something on a trail, that's an expensive recovery. Investments up front, save on the backend.

Think of a winch. You may never use it, but if you ever needed to and didn't have it, you're screwed. Plus, you can use it to help other people.

The 33s are indeed a lot of tire. In Australia and Africa, you'll rarely see anything larger than 33, bigger is Merica!

The 2.3 is a good engine, particularly with the turbo. It'll actually be more than most people need and has the power to pull the Bronco through the trail with ease.
