Interesting observations about the manual. Funny how we all see things differently. I can't wait to get 4.88s as mine is geared to high. I can do 15mph indicated in 1st, which is higher geared than I want, and have no issues with the 1-2 shift. I don't drive over 80 and don't use 6th gear at all. Thankfully it has the crawl gear and I use it for a lot of my offroad driving. I prefer to remain above 2500rpm for cruise and shift above 3000rpm.

Great looking Bronco. Having just put the Badland coilovers in my Black Diamond, I'd seriously look at adding them to any base for best bang for your buck improvement in ride and performance. I really like my Toyo ATIIIs. As loud as my top is above 65mph, I have no idea if I'm getting much road noise from the tires.

Update ... Finally made it to an interstate. Plus I aired down to the appropiate levels, the tire shop had them at 48psi.
At regular hiway speed, 65 to 68 , there is a pretty noticeable hum now.

At Interstate/Toll road speed, 78 mph, in my opinion, they are LOUD.

In their defense, they are considerably more rugged than other AT's I have ridden on, but they do seem quite loud at the upper speeds.
Thanks for the follow up and good to know. I know they are good rugged off road tires. As I have found on my Jeep it’s always a balance between trail durability and daily driver. Looks great though.

Looks great! I have the same wheels on order in black and will probably do the 285/70/17 once they come in.
Sorry to ask an uniformed question: I have a Base on order...I was going to go to 285/75/16...and have wheels powder coated......do you know the approximate difference in wheel diameter or 285/75/16 and 285/70/17s? thanks..... it seems the 17' steelies are around $90 each.

No worries this is what tiresize.com says the difference in sizes are.

The one thing I don't like about the base steelies is they are a narrow wheel.

Just some quick pics of the new set up, installed during a snowfall , lol.
NO LIFT ... crash bars have been removed
Method 703 "Bead Grips" in Gloss Titanium
17 x 8.5 +35mm
Toyo Open Country A/T 3
35 x 11.5 - 17 ... load range C
Wheel 28.7 lbs
Tire ... 63 lbs
let say .. 92lbs total

No rub at static height or full droop, not even close.... haven't flexed it upwards yet (stuffed).
Just the 2.25" of added height really change the look of this thing. She's one burly bitch now! LOL
I thought I wanted the 33.9" 285/75 , but these became available first, load range C ... so I jumped. I'm glad I did!

Drive-ability ... These 35's have pushed the manual from being very over geared to just slightly under geared, very slightly. I actually prefer the way it drives now. 1st is much more useable and the 1-2 shift is A LOT smoother. It's like 1st was too low and second was too close of a gear but not quite enough to launch from , so it made the 1-2 shift pretty jerky. I'm not the only one who has mentioned the same feeling about the manuals 1-2 shift.
If I had to guess, I'd say a 33" 285/70-17 would have nailed it.
Now to the pics , if you haven't already scrolled past all this drivel.

I think they are 7 inch wide, so generally the tallest would be 255/85R16.

Without looking, which I will do in a second, @kodiakisland is probably right.
255/85-16 = 33.1 x 10.0 tallest
285 probably the widest that would be adviseable.
The biggest issue is how skinny the Base steelie is @ 7".
So width becomes the stopper.
A lot of people are mounting 285/75-16 , (32.8 x 11.2) considered a 33" at 32.8" tall, but i dont think there is a manufacturer out there that recommends anything less than 7.5" minimum wheel width. But it appears most tire shops will mount them for you.
My issue becomes , they are all Load E tires, and I fear they will make the ride too harsh for my liking. Others don't even seem to care or notice.
No real world knowledge on my behalf on that, regarding Broncos anyways.

Here's a helpful link.

Supa supa supa Schweet! Can't wait to see how it goes when hitting the trail. Totally dig how you kept 'em inside the fenders. I went with Falken ATw3s on the base steelies, 31.5" 265/70r16 to save rotating weight @ 44lbs. per tire, not sure what the steelies weigh. I'm happy with that, but yours is totally ridiculous good.

Not to mention that the 255/85-16 is going to have superior snow/mud traction as the narrower tires don't float on the surface as much as the wider tires.

Thanks for this post, Really helped me decide on wheels and tires. Wondering if you think you can fit 315/70 r17s in there on those +30 wheels without rub on lock? i think they are nearly any inch wider in spec but a bit shorter.

I don't think there'd be an issue with the 315's.
Half that inch goes to the outside.
Folks reporting rub were running 35 x 12.5 or 315/70 on factory +55 wheels.
The rub was best described as "Just barely kisses the sway bar at full lock."
The +35mm offset should alleviate that as it moves the tire outboard by about 3/4" (.75).
