I am upgrading to one of these as I want the advanced 4x4, but both have their cons (for me)

OBX
- don't like the step at all - can this be easily removed? (ugly and no need imo)
- prefer 17 wheels vs 18 but I know I can change this

BD
- costs a few thousand more but get mgv
- aux switches will be useless to be
- another GOAT mode - rock crawl - may never use

I am sold on 2.7 auto, mid package, advanced 4x4, rear locker.

thoughts?

"BD" stands for "Black Diamond." If you meant "Badlands" that's usually "BL."

A four door Black Diamond with 2.7/mid/4A options is $45,820.

An OBX comes with Mid standard, and adding 4A also adds the rear locker. So with 2.7/mid/4A options it is $47,075.

Step can easily be removed. OBX has cooler headlights.

Should only be a few bolts (4 maybe) per side.

Hardest part of removing the steps will be their disposal.

You can’t go wrong either way but the black diamond will be more off road capable and a little less money and will have washout floor with drain if that’s something you care about also comes standered with rock rails and heavy duty bumpers. You will not get the nice upgraded lights on a black diamond but the reg lights give it a more old school look

How do you figure the OBX is a few thousand cheaper? Are you getting 2 or 4 door? When I price them out as you have listed above, I get 47,100 for the OBX and 46,600 for the BD. I am going BD for several reasons, but the marine grade vinyl is probably at the top of the list.

As far as the side step goes, I did see one of these in person and it looks to be easily removable. But if you really don't like the side step, the BD comes with the rock rails that in my opinion look better (even if you don't really need them).

Really what it comes down to when comparing these as you have specked out above, OBX is cloth, carpet interiors, upgraded headlights/taillights and fog lights, and slightly bigger rims with less aggressive tires.

BD gets rock rails, steel bumpers (No fog lights), washout and vinyl interiors, molle grid system on seats, and Rock crawl with slightly more off road oriented tires.

If this car will never see off road, OBX will probably be slightly more comfortable on road and marginally quieter inside. BD will be slightly better when venturing into the wild with minor losses in on road quietness. Really, they won't be that different for typical day to day use. Get what you want.

How do feel about:
  • the the painted fender flares and mirror caps (OBX)
  • the different grills
  • the signature headlights (OBX) vs the standard headlights (BD)
  • the different stock wheels

from an aesthetic standpoint comparing these things may help drive your decision. Also consider which of the interior options you like the best.

I don't like the Grandpa Steps just as much as the rest, but disposal? Store them in the garage to reinstall on trade/resale of the Bronco, sell the steps on FB Marketplace/Craigslist, or scrap them. Unless you have no access to scrap yards, all three option shouldn't be "hard".

would help to know the type of driving you primarily do and what you intend to do with the Bronco

OBX is geared towards city driving
BD (or BL) is geared towards offroading

OBX
- easy to take the steps off
- do you like the interior?

BD/BL
- MGV & washout is a plus if you like it and plan to do lots of topless/offroading
- better tires
- BL has better suspension

I saw your post on the other site with the costs, are you planning to SAS?
ask as your costing in CAD seemed high with 2.7/auto/mid

You missed my point, but that’s okay.

His point wasn't how hard it is to find a place to put them, his point was how easy it is to take them off.

Also,

Can OP confirm whether they mean Black Diamond or Badlands?

Unless I screwed it up....

Black Diamond comes in at $67,556 (tax. incl)
Outerbanks comes in at $65,065 (tax. incl)

based on those options

Will not be doing any major rock crawling

I switched from an Outer Banks to a Badlands primarily because I wasn't into the look of the OBX grill/painted flares, mirrors, door handles and look of the wheels. I did like the brown/tan two-tone interior option in the OBX but I've started liking the look of the black interior photos for the Badlands in pics I've seen here. I'd love to opt for the MGV too, but too spoiled by power/heated seats at this point, so being forced by Ford to go with the leather.

Feel like those prices might be backwards. OBX should be more expensive.
