I had the exact same failure on my '21 Badlands, both rear reservoirs detached due to rusting.

Replaced under factory 3 year - 60,000km warranty without any arguments from the dealer.

Definitely seems to be more common in areas that experience actual winters, but it's definitely not exclusive to those areas.

Alaska has actual winters and they don’t salt the fuck out of their roads.

I lived in Anchorage in the early 80s. They would only salt the intersections. They would plow the roads, leaving ice.

Hit a bump and the whole rear end will kick. Not smooth at all. You’ll def know if it happens.

Ya, I think that is what I am experiencing on one side. Feels normal until I hit a pothole on the passenger side and then the passenger side rear shock is clunking like I have 100,000 miles on the odometer.

I can't see anything else abnormal or loose, shock even looks good, but when something hits on the passenger rear, it's like there nothing resisting the spring, allowing it to bottom out. It's not noticeable at speed on smooth road.

I wanted the Squatch for the front locker. Isn’t that the only way to get it? Front locker packaged with crappy Bilstein’s? I guess it’s about $1,600 plus installation for the 6112’s with springs for a non-Sasquatch. My son did this on his Black Diamond. Excellent ride. Very good handling. Is a bit taller than the Squatch with ride height adjusted. I’m assuming the front locker aftermarket would be another $2500?

It’s not the only way to get it. Badlands Non-Sasquatch is the only other way to get it from the factory... But you still get a variant of the yellow Bilstein's.

Of course, you can retrofit it to any Bronco with the M210 FDU from Ford Performance. You can typically source the M210 FDU for less than $2500 alone, but installation and axles will likely put you over that number.

Out of curiosity how did you know the shocks were done? Besides visually looking terrible, does the ride start to get bumpy, etc?

My truck got VERY sketchy at highway speeds when hitting bumps. Back end wobble with oversteer, stability control kicking in, etc. Turns out both rears were leaking. I am at 45k miles. New 6100s going on today.

My left front shock is making the scrape noise under turn load. I should go check to see if I have a reservoir left.

Good to know. I've only driven about 5k on mine and so far no issues. Seems like those shocks are giving up anywhere after 40k so I'll have to keep an eye out

Had a guy yesterday go on about keeping this Bilsteins on his '22, like I'm never gonna change them out (I mentioned 6100s). He had 37's. I was like, well they won't last forever, and y'know, the 21/22's have this problem with the reservoirs falling off. Still not sure if it registered.

Are you sure this problem is limited to the 21/22's? Have not seen anything about any improvement/change from Bilstein on the 23's and later.

There is no change in design. It's just a matter of time in service and the exposure to the elements. The '23's and 24's will be facing the same fate as they accrue time in service and subsequent exposure to the elements.

Yeah, 25yrs ago, the KYBs that came on the isuzu Vehicross (1st OEM to use remote reservoir) were far superior to the junk ford gives us...My Vehicross had 300,000 miles on OEM shocks with zero issues.
