Redline Thank you.
Before your post I checked at local Ford for a new clip for a rod end. Ford does not sell them and requires you to buy a whole new rod/brace. I just found this post and ordered a set of new ends.

Appreciate you coming on this forum.

I order this and they don’t work, they do not fit the Bronco tailgate strut.
Odd..they should. I've had to bookmark well before I ever even got my Bronco just in case mine broke because I know there have been people that have purchased these and use them.

My bookmark has the same part number

Stupid question, but did you pull off the retainer before installation?

I wonder if they change the strut. Because I swear somebody did this fix.

According to the parts catalog, the part number has never changed.

@DWood , I had the exact same defect and it happened the same way - pulled the tailgate open and the vinyl threads from the strut "head" stripped off. Vinyl threads, @Ford Motor Company , seriously?

I hope your dealer fixed it. But when I called my dealer, they said the part was back-ordered (which I took to mean either (1) this problem is happening a lot, or more likely (2) extra parts are not even available yet).

I emailed Redline Tuning (they make a killer set of hood struts for our Broncos), and sent them pics of the part failure. They make a "head" that is the same size with metal threads!! And fairly priced at $10 for two. I threaded it on, popped it back in place. Good to go!

Here is a link for anyone who might need it in the future: https://www.redlinetuning.com/product-p/72-00006.htm

Maybe that link is wrong. They have a couple different types of fittings available on their website.

@95Bravo

Maybe you can confirm?
Hello Everyone,
We have received feedback from customers that Ford has changed the gas springs used in the tailgate and that "sometimes" the end fittings do not work. It seems that "some" gas springs have different threads on each end. I am not sure if Ford has multiple suppliers for the gas springs or if they made a running change. The only way to know for sure is to take off the end fittings from your current gas springs and confirm they are M6x1 thread (the same as our metal end fittings). It's odd because the M6x1 thread is the industry standard for end fittings on gas springs. :rolleyes:
