Looks like they wasted an awful lot of space. Is all of that thick surround padding?

Just so everyone knows, the stock console opening measures a generous 7”w X 8”deep. This safe reduces that to a 4 1/2” X 5” knuckle bleeding booby trap.! Qwikdraw McGraw would have trouble pulling even my Keltec 380 and certainly not a 1911 out of this tiny orifice when milliseconds count.! I even discovered a 12 volt power point in there after removing the safe.!
If milliseconds count, it should be in a holster on your person, in the same spacial relation to your draw hand all of the time.

A separate safe is for when it needs to be secured *away* from your direct control, and you are in a position where you accept it is not available for immediate access.

No. It's hollow under the top plate.!

If it’s not on your person you’re probably dead anyway.

No. It's hollow under the top plate.!
How does it mount?

could you cut the box off the back and just preserve the top plate with the locking door?

perhaps the portal opening is till the issue for a handgun, but for other things, sunglasses, wallet, etc, could be a win.

That safe is basically for people to leave their keys, phones and wallets in when the top is left off. Nothing else fits.

Differing opinions about this console safe and firearms and personal preferences regarding your own safety is exactly why the title of my post states "not for some".! My preferred "concealed carry" is not comfortable while belted in the Bronco cockpit and certainly not easily deployed in that position. When I get in, it comes out of "conceal". Road rage is probably the highest percentage firearm engagement while we are traveling. If an assailant blocks my vehicle, exits with a weapon, my eyes will never be anywhere but on him. Console safe, one motion to open console lid, then your eyes are diverted to enter the numbers then……well…..you get the picture. I posted this to warn people that have not received their Bronco and thinking about the safe. "Some" people ain’t gonna like it.! The console lid does lock using the key that’s in the fob.

Confirmed a holstered p365XL will fit the console safe. *Not for fast draw though.

Agreed. 100%. 👍

While the opening of the Bronco's console vault is small, the space inside is large enough to hold my Glock G17 Gen5 with the large, beavertail backstrap. This is not a small sidearm. It is a full-sized, 17-round, 9mm, polymer frame handgun. I just have to twist my hand a little when inserting and removing it.

Not for fast draw, obviously.

This is pretty apropos... since I was just contemplating my setup... which is in many ways both more and significantly less convenient than the console safe:

Your kit box carries a little more gear than my rear cargo vault. 😂

Correct, but those of us with MGV dont have to worry about those power seats.
I have a Vline Simplex gun safe under my driver's seat... Holds any of my EDC firearms.
