Anyone else have continual issues with Sync? I used to only have the iPhone disconnection problem when I drove through certain places. Now I have all kinds of issues related to CarPlay (map won’t display, music plays but no sound, phone won’t connect if I’m talking on it when I start the car).

it used to be occasional but now I’m having to soft reset like once every other day. Super annoying.

There is an occasional issue with Ford's Sync and iPhones, don't know if it does it on Android/Google phones. We have our Expedition and the Bronco, and occasionally no sound comes out when the phone connects and starts playing music (or bring up Siri or whatever). We have to disconnect the phone and reconnect it, and it usually takes care of the issue for a while. Not entirely certain what causes it.

My FIL's F250 also does it. I believe it's an issue with Sync but I am not a programmer. It's just instinct.

I switched from wireless to wired and it solved 95% of my disconnects/lag issues. I still get an occasional hiccup, usually on startup.

I had to disable Wireless App Projection to get it to switch - just plugging a phone in it would still connect wirelessly

I found some connection where it happens when I get in the car shortly after exiting, and the car remained unlocked. For instance, it rarely happened when I get in the car in the morning for the first time of the day. But if I get out quickly to go into a store and don't lock it, then come back it almost never plays audio. It's just inconsistent which makes it hard to pinpoint the issue (which is why I assume Ford still hasn't pushed a fix).

Sync has never been great, but yeah, Sync 4 is awfully buggy. Don’t know if its stellar software QC or buggy covid-era hardware.

Ford recently released a TSB to dealers to address this issue. The thing is, even with the latest Sync software, it is not perfect. If you navigate to your "about sync" page in the touchscreen settings and you are not on Sync 24127, then you have older Sync software that if updated, should improve wireless app projection for both Android and Apple phones. With that said: I've been on Sync 24127 and I still use a wired connection because it simply works better. If you are on Sync 24127, this TSB is NOT for you.

Two things about this TSB.

1) If you are out of warranty, good luck convincing them to do it. Even with warranty, you may get some push-back. Dealers don't like updating modules......it is what it is.

2) There are some cases where Ford has not released the last string of updates for specific vehicles that are needed in order to get up to the latest Sync version. If your truck is not on Sync 24127 and it does not show any GWM, APIM, TCU or IPC updates pending, there is nothing the dealer or you can do about. FDRS cannot update a module that does not show a pending update for it.

While this TSB is a big step in the right direction from Ford to allow owners the chance to get their Sync modules updated without having to rely on the OTA process or have to update it themselves, this is not a smoking gun you can use to walk into a dealer and demand your truck be updated. Remember you catch more flies with honey than sh*t and being nice about it will get you better results.

Could be worse...

Jeep now puts advertisements on their screens when you come to a stop.
"Hey! drop in at XXXXXXX Jeep/Kia for a service appointment, while you're there have a look at our extensive inventory - maybe you'll find that Kia Sorrento you've been looking to swap into... [blah]".

I’ve been having this issue since January! I’ve tried all the mentioned fixes to no avail. It’s at the dealership now. I requested the sync update that’s in this post, but apparently it’s not available for me.

New wrinkle: the dealership says everything tested fine once the aftermarket T harness was unplugged.

Is anyone having this issue with a completely stock stereo? (I have kicker key, sub, T harness from plug n play)

Message me the VIN. It is possible they are being truthful and you do not show any pending updates for the GWM, APIM or TCU even if your Sync software is not up to date.

As far as the harness goes, if you can also send me a link to the one you are using, that would help me rule the harness out as the issue. I highly doubt that is what is causing the problem.

It happens at certain locations....clearly a wireless interference of some sort.

This whole sync issue caused me to bite the bullet and purchase the hardware needed to run a FDRS session and update all modules on my own. I have a post you can search for if you are interested in that journey. In my case I had other modules that needed updated before the 6GB SYNC update would show up. Now I am on the latest SYNC (24127) and have a much better experience. I am using Android Auto wirelessly. Now I only have dropouts when I cross below large power lines and in one additional area which is believe is microwave towers. That being said, SYNC originated with a collaboration between Microsoft and Ford. (So . . .) Music while riding is important to me, I might end up purchasing a cheaper Android Pixel a series and keep it plugged into the rig. Auto updating the music collection over WiFi and just consider it part of the stereo / nav system.

I wish you the best of luck!
