I made a first try at my filler panel. Drawers are next but the idea is to have a flat area when the seats are back. Put the seats down, flip the platform forward and viola…nice flat carpeted space.

This is exactly what I was planning. Nicely done! Any hints/lessons learned?

The top ”layer” has a couple cutouts to clear the side panels once in place. I tries a piano hinge but the carpeting bound due to the thickness so I just used a couple regular hinges.

I saw Justin McBride build his platform and honestly it made so much sense I had to copy him and do one for myself. This completely eliminates the hump between the cargo floor/backseat while introducing storage hidden underneath. My plan is to solo camp for a week or two at a time and this is the perfect easy DIY solution that anyone can knock out over a weekend.

Materials needed:

(2) 2' x 4' x 1/2" plywood, or (1) 4' x 4' x 1/2
(2) rolls of trailer bunk carpet -- Its almost the exact amount I needed so 3 rolls if you're concerned https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000KOTTK...abc_NQW774CAJTCF26SEDWHS?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
(1) 2x4x8 board - ended up milling my own but dimensionally each base support measured 29" long.
(1) spray adhesive, 3m worked great for me

If anyone wants the dimensions completed let me know, it was a back and forth between the Bronco and tablesaw but it fits perfectly now.

*disregard the patch job on the left support leg. Ran out of bunk material at the very last piece of endgrain lol
That’s a thing of beauty !

In my head I have a different approach. I'm thinking of Actually building the framework around the floor to accommodate what I need, like drawers, most likely a subwoofer, etc.

Then just put a cap on it, maybe with the piano hinge to be able to lift up at least the front half and get to the extra cargo storage.

I just wish there was something other than wood because it's so heavy. I had read about some Foam Boards they're supposed to be just as strong but a whole bunch lighter and you work with it just like you would work with wood.

Great idea and thanks for sharing. Would you happen to have the measurements of the plywood? I’m still waiting on my bronco but I would like to pre-build this platform. Thank you.

Speaking of subwoofer…this could possibly work as a hidden false floor sub box with a little planning. I did something similar years ago in the hatch of my Honda CRX. Could just be another purpose…a sub box.

You can get the interior dimensions on the spec sheet thread if you do not get a response.

That's exactly the term. False floor. That's my plan with the only downside of not being able to store the onboard doors anymore. But frankly, that was a gimmick anyway because I don't know about most people come up but I always have something in the back already.

You've had this now for a few months. How is it holding up. How tall is it from the base floor?

I love it. I use the drawers to hold bungees, tow strap, clevis, and misc. tie down stuff. The platform is useful for loading/carrying and its great to just flip it back to deploy the rear seats to haul people. its about 4-5” total height but the useable drawers are about 3 1/2” deep.

The way I did mine, I had to fit some reliefs for seat belts, the door latch bump out, etc. I test fitted it half a dozen times to get it right. I would be wary to build this without the Bronco to fit it to Unless you had patterns or wanted to make it with loose tolerances.
