This topic has been kicked a lot and there are some good threads in the Transmission/axle/gear forum. Lots of bad info too.The gear ratios confuse me a bit. Anyone know , apologies if it has been answered, why they are coming with 4.7s? The raptors only come with 4.10s even with the new 37” package.
I have an 18 raptor, my impression is that its the same trans. I realize raptor has significantly more power, but the rpms on the 2.7 have to be much higher.
higher ratio makes sense in bronco as my raptor cant hold freeway speed in a headwind without downshift. Rpms too low.
Anyways i know this isnt a raptor page but curious on the logic
First rule is don’t judge adequate gears for one vehicle based on what a completely different vehicle has. There is no relevance to what a Jeep/Toyota/f150 etc has to proper Bronco gears. Different motors, transmission, weight, etc. Even if they use the same transmission it can have a different gear set for different applications.
The factory almost always goes on the high side to improve highway economy, plus most people are fine with poor performance. Very few of us actually want and appreciate a lower geared diff. I want to pull stumps, not hit the rev limiter, in my 4WD anyway.
I plan to put 4.88s or lower in at some point. Lower is almost always better in 4WDs. Besides, I’ve had my years of driving the Autobahn and don’t care what top end is like in the Bronco. It will do most of it’s work under 35mph.
