To turn around in my yard before parking in the garage 50ft away for the night? No I didn't 😂

Hey you wouldn't happen to have a solid axle swapped Explorer would you?
Yeah, I literally got stuck in my driveway trying to leave for work. So I ran at 40psi for the next week to make the air-down worth it.

But yes! I did build a 5.0L solid axle Explorer when I was a kid. Got rid of it over 10 years ago for a classic Bronco.

I knew I recognized the username from Explorerforum days! You had a sweet Explorer man.

That kind of snow, it's easy to get framed out. Tires punch through the crust and you get framed out.

Is that what happened?

In my case I'm running Nokian Hakkapeliitta LT3 315/70R17 studded snow tires. They are designed for high traction on snow/ice covered roads and they are fantastic for that. Clawing through deep snow not so much.
Had Nokian Rotiiva tires on my Ram and loved them. Great in rain and snow/ice. I live in Tennessee and don't have the snow issues I had in Northern New York. You might have just hit an extra icy patch under the snow.

Keep it out of 4L for that stuff. Momentum is definitely your friend. 4h and when you start to bog, more throttle. Been happy with the Goodyears so far. Trying to run them year round.

Had to go to 4L for the front Locker. You can do 35 in 4L no problem.

Cheers to you! The point is that you are testing to see how prepared you need to be for future offroading trips. Tires here in the south don't work on ice...

I see. Cool. I’ve been having fun doing donuts in the snow in Trail Turn Assist. Haven’t used the front locker yet.

Don't know all you tried.

I would have left in 4h even without front locker engaging. It is just too easy to break traction with it in low.

If the frame was supported by snow then true and well stuck but can't tell if that was the case.

Rocking back and forth is what I would have done to get momentum. If I couldn't get the start of a rock, then I would have added fresh show around times, dug more out, or tried to put something like a stick under.

What you showed in the video only serves to make it more stuck, but if you did just that after everything else tried I get that.

Sitting at idle, in 4L it was spinning all 4 tires with no throttle inputs. If I would have had just a little momentum going through the snow birm I wouldn't have been stuck. Live and learn I suppose.
Momentum is a big deal when you have to get over a specific obstacle. Thanks for sharing your experience, helps the rest of us...

If idle torque to the ground through 4L was too much, why not 4H to maybe get a bite? Reduce it by two thirds and you might have gotten some traction.
