My 2023 Bronco has the factory warranty expiring next month. I wanted to check with the group whether they suggest purchasing an extended warranty. I've read mixed things on the forums about them not covering various items (hardtops, vinyl seat tears, etc.) Was wondering if anyone else had issues with Ford denying coverage for issues they thought were genuine manufacturer defects?

Thanks!

It wont cover everything, but it's still worth getting in most cases.
There are other similar threads on here where others have asked the same question that you may want to look at.

See above. Run a search.

My opinion is that if you're getting the Ford ESP extended warranty, it's good to have for peace of mind. Covers function, not form, but is a good insurance policy against expensive repairs that you may or may not have.

If you're going to get a 3rd party extended warranty, it isn't worth the paper it's printed on in my experience.

I have been going back and forth on this for a while now. What made my decision was the fact my mom paid for the warranty up to 130k on her 2013 fusion and never had to use it. If something is going to fail generally it will happen pretty quickly. I'm almost at 60k and haven't had any more issues since about 30k miles. Another factor is I'm more than capable to do the work on my own vehicle and I can buy the parts for most things I was concerned about for less than the cost of the warranty itself.

That's not necessarily true for every vehicle though. I do a ton of ESP work at my dealership. A lot of which is between 60-90K miles.
At the end of the day, it's basically a gamble whether it will pay off or not. But for how cheap you can get an ESP warranty to 100K miles or above, to me it was really an easy decision. And I work on these for a living.

This is my take on it. It's like an insurance policy - may never need it but it's there if something major happens. And on these newer vehicles with so many electronic components that are ridiculously expensive, if just a couple modules fail it pays for itself pretty quick...never mind if you have something major like an engine or transmission (which is more common than I'd like to admit).

Haven't picked one up for my truck yet, but let's say the motor goes out on one of my power-fold mirrors (may never happen) - those can run upwards of $1k just for parts since it's typically replaced as an entire unit. Deductible on the warranty makes that just $100 for me.

It's peace of mind. If you aren't worried about paying out-of-pocket for major issues, then don't buy it. If you want that peace of mind, make sure to get the level of coverage you want (some are more all-inclusive than others) and drop the cash now.

I don't know if this has changed, but if you sell/trade in the vehicle before that warranty expires, you used to get a pro-rated amount of the cost back. We did when my wife traded in her 2017 F150.

I got the extended warranty, basically for electronics. I mean the ESP covers roughly everything, but I’ve changed out / upgraded my suspension, UCAs, links, trac bar, etc. But electronics always scares me if something goes wrong. Info screen, gauges, window motors, lock motors, seat motors, etc. To me, it’s peace of mind. It’s like insurance, we all pay for it, costs a lot of money, and if you’re lucky enough, never have to use it.

I didn’t read your post before I posted, just went to the end. We basically said the same thing, lol! 100% agree!

I'd say if you enjoy doing your own work and have the 2.3L especially the manual version. Don't bother.

If you hire the dealership for repairs and especially if you have the loaded versions with V6 then it may be a worthwhile insurance to buy.

Keep in mind there is no guarantee the repairs will be covered and often you pay the diagnostic fee to find out.
Dave Ramsey doesn't recommend for good reason. Like all insurance odds are against you that's how companies stay in business. But like any gambling sometimes you win sometimes you lose.

If you plan to keep the truck for longer than the 5yr-60 powertrain warranty it would be a no brainer for me. If you're the type to trade every two or three years probably not worth it unless your putting on 20k-30k miles/yr.

If you need it it's. Worth it

If you never have an issue it was a waste of money

I invested in the Granger Ford warranty - these newer vehicles are rolling computers & one small failure can be co$tly.

Get it from Ford, not third party. I bought the 7 year/100K package and I think it was a reasonable price. Especially since my rig is no garage queen - I abuse the shit out it - meaning, I drive it like it like I drove theirs at the Braptor Off-Roadeo. 14K miles in and no issues. These trucks are stout but it will damn expensive when something major lets loose....warranty will pay for itself in one major repair......DO IT BRO....DO IT NOW! No affiliation with Ford or their F&I department. DO. IT. NOW.

I thought about the extended warranty and decide to self insure. Unlike many on here I trust the electronics as long as you don't mess with things. I'm more concerned about mechanical failures but I'm also a low mileage driver. I also don't abuse my vehicles and keep up with maintenance.

For me the real cost of a repair is what the repair costs minus what I'd have paid for a warranty since I would have been out of pocket that much either way. So the question is, can I afford it and what are the odds?

Each person has to decide affordability for themselves.

The risk is a different matter. Electronics are most likely to fail within the first few years. Once they're cooked in they tend to be stable unless you mess with them. So the 3 year factory warranty covers that.

I'm more concerned about mechanical failure. But again I do maintenance and don't abuse.

Federal law requires major components to be covered for 8-years/80,000 miles (catalytic converter, ECU, ODB).

Ford and warranty companies try to convince you that something will fail and it will be expensive. But Ford, and other manufacturers, also likes to advertise how reliable their vehicles are. Who to believe?

Fords warranty fulfillment is vwry sketchy at best on original warranty I just had a warranty finally delivered after 7 mths only to be told its now a "normal" defect no warranty. Dealer Principal tod me Ford Warranty is famous for that tactic.

Would not buy any Ford or any extended warranty unless in a state where the laws are on your side with easy claims if even exists.
