What's the problem with 12AM? Oh know they still have a Y2K problem!! I'm going to completely disable auto updates. That said you should be able to get a rental car for $45 almost anywhere. You must be going for the lux models.

These are the lowest currently and I checked 4 companies but thanks for your input. Without my discount code they are 70+... In the end, its not the end of the world but I should not have to pay any money out of my pocket for this.

I don't think rentals are particularly high in my area, but car rentals start at $50 if you swing a good deal on the cheapest one they have.

Not that this is OP's job to do as I believe the dealer should be able to pay the next cheapest rate if they $40/day is too low but calling the rental facility, explaining the situation to the manager, a lower rate could be offered. I am a service advisor and we have pre-negotiated rates at an Enterprise. Should the customer choose to upgrade, then they are responsible for the difference. The courtesy rental is not an equal car to owners but something to keep them mobile. Same should be across the board for manufacturers.

As for the "may not be covered under warranty" statement. Its just a blanket statement. Shitty one to make given the scenario how it failed but as a service advisor, I have absolutely no way to know how the vehicle got to the situation its currently in. OP could have flooded the car, blew out the fuse box, tows vehicle to dealer and says this is how it was when he woke up in the morning. An Advisor just has no way to verify this without a technician looking at it first.

Once technician verified findings and finds the correct repair, then warranty coverage can be determined.

This is a perfect situation to bring in legal counsel. They should be able to have a field day, and since you have received mixed information at this point, Iā€™d definitely drop them hammer on Ford and potentially the dealership as well.

Thank God.... I was waiting on this update all week. So before I got out of it for the night I changed my update schedule to go yesterday evening. Went down and checked it out this morning. All good. Update successful.



OP I hope you get sorted out fine. It's also weird that the dealership says they won't cover rental. Even on my oil changes my dealer either gives me a loaner or takes me to the car rental place where they already set it up. They cover everything. I thought that was a standard thing. Been that way for me at the dealership for like 15 years. I hope they come thru for you!

Ive purchased 3 vehicles from them this year... no special treatment but they are nice. They have a list 80 deep for their loaners

Update, they "reset the computer" and it works again but doesn't seem to have the most recent update. They are still working on a few other small warranty things like a gap in one of the hard top panels.

I was getting updates intermittently but then when I changed my updates from just automatic to "daily" things seems to be more regular. I also now try to remember to set the headlights to off, instead of auto, but we shouldn't have to fiddle with a switch that defaults to auto...

I woke up this morning to a ford pass notification that a software update failed and would try again at another date.
When I went to take my daughter to school the accessory mode would turn on but it will not start. The main screen now displays that the software update failed and is not driveable!

any ideas! The ford service techs still havenā€™t called me back

UPDATE: 8am the Ford customer service department is trying to get Ford roadside assistance is going to tow it to a dealer.
Update: 1030am towed to dealer and was told it may be next week before they can get to it. Ford said they will only reimburse me up to $45 per day for a rental even though the lowest rental price I can find is over $70 per day.
Update: 11am Ford In Vehicle Technology customer service rep recommendations to avoid this in the future, "A "Brick" could happen if the update is scheduled at or around 12am, you also need to have parking brake on with lights completely off and not in the auto setting. We recommend 1am for the update time. "
update2/23 10am:Update: dealer said the sync specialist canā€™t even get power to the vehicle so they are now having to troubleshoot that. I have no idea what that means. I got an app update that the vehicle is no longer connected to my account shortly beforehand.

Update: 2/25: they said they reset the computer and it works again. Doesn't seem to have the most recent update yet.

I hope you got it fixed. New fear unlocked! Iā€™ve only noticed one update so far on my 22 ym and it asked me if I wanted to perform the update as I had just parked in a shopping area lot. The update finished before I got back and I noticed it had a timer to get out of vehicle and lock it or alarm would go off. That was frightening in itself.
