I woke up this morning to a ford pass notification that a software update failed and would try again at another date.
When I went to take my daughter to school the accessory mode would turn on but it will not start. The main screen now displays that the software update failed and is not driveable!

any ideas! The ford service techs still havenā€™t called me back

UPDATE: 8am the Ford customer service department is trying to get Ford roadside assistance is going to tow it to a dealer.
Update: 1030am towed to dealer and was told it may be next week before they can get to it. Ford said they will only reimburse me up to $45 per day for a rental even though the lowest rental price I can find is over $70 per day.
Update: 11am Ford In Vehicle Technology customer service rep recommendations to avoid this in the future, "A "Brick" could happen if the update is scheduled at or around 12am, you also need to have parking brake on with lights completely off and not in the auto setting. We recommend 1am for the update time. "
update2/23 10am:Update: dealer said the sync specialist canā€™t even get power to the vehicle so they are now having to troubleshoot that. I have no idea what that means. I got an app update that the vehicle is no longer connected to my account shortly beforehand.

Update: 2/25: they said they reset the computer and it works again. Doesn't seem to have the most recent update yet.

Try the FordPass app> Account> Help> Call

Iā€™m guessing there is some way to fix this over the air

On hold with them now. I tried to update it manually but it wonā€™t let me press any buttons on the screen to get to the manual update page.

Dumb question. Shouldn't a failed update revert back to the previous version? This is the first I have heard of a software update immobilizing the vehicle.
The OTA updates have the capability to update more than just the SYNC system. I have received 4 updates since the 3.5.4 powerup, and these don't come with a power up version. I have suspected they are updating various control modules/modules, and this is the first evidence we have seen that supports that.

They tried to update it manually over the air and it didnā€™t work so they are towing it later this morning. Said they would reimburse $40/day for a rental but I just checked and the lowest is over 60 near me.

My current F150 Raptor has had many OTA updates for various things. I have also had several either fail or not complete before the vehicle was driven. None have "bricked" the truck. I usually get an error message that says something to the effect of "update incomplete". Crazy that they would put out an OTA that could have that result. They should save those updates for in person at the dealer.

mine came close a month back, it pushed a OTA update, and the screen was black when I turned the vehicle on. I cycled the ignition a few times, still black screen. I did a hard reset (power button and right seek) and that seemed to fix it. That resets the SYNC module.

A definite downside of a software defined vehicle.

I swear my "miles to empty" number went from 69 to 79 after an update. Either I'm downloading more gas or Ford tweaked the calcs in on of the updates. There's no changelog so we'll never know.
