Fire extinguishers, parts & links compilation from the fire thread. Much easier than going through all the posts to find relevant information.

Halon extinguisher (recommended. Costs about $60 to recharge in the event you use it, but won’t cause corrosion like dry element extinguishers. The PRO uses real Halon 1211 and is what you want. But Halotron is still better than conventional dry powder)

Winch relay instead of power disconnect (there are several options from various vendors. Do your own research. Could be nice though to power the winch from Aux switch instead of lifting hood. But also added complexity and failure points)

Continuing the learning path aka going down a rabbit hole, and this video probably gave me more anxiety than any feature film I’ve watched. Literally jaw dropping.

For the too long, didn’t watch crowd-he puts 150 amps through a 100 amp fuse and waits, while checking temperatures. It takes…a long time…to finally pop. At least 12-15 minutes. But during this time it exceeded his flir device at >800F for what seemed like a frightening amount of time. The temperature also works it’s way into the 4/0 wiring, heating the wire all the way to the source and to the point the heat shrink adhesive melts.

Let me know if there are other resources to add and I’ll get them in the original post

Element E50 is not a fire extinguisher by definition. I will swear by them being a bigger hazard to have inside the vehicle than any help they can offer as they can not be shut off.
Another thing people don't think about is training. We had a trainer at my old job and it's not easy to use extinguishers; a lot of people aim for the flames and not the fire source. With these sticks, not only is it expensive to train on them, but it's also something you have to understand. I had heard that even Loren Healy or whoever had that fire didn't use the E50 right, which contributed to how bad the fire was.

Good stuff.

Wire: My understanding is that the best current automotive quality OEM wire for temperature, abrasion and chemical resistance is XLPE jacketed (Cross-Linked Polyethylene). It's good to 255 °F. It is pure copper, of course. It's also commonly referred to as GXL wire. It's generally for harsh, underhood applications. It's available in many gauges, colors and lengths at McMaster Carr. For example these.

Is that comparable to the crosslinked TEFZEL prowire in the original post? (I’m only familiar with crosslinked fluids for the purpose of proppant transport in hydraulic fracturing operations. Which is another way of saying I’m fuching retarded)

@userdude if only you know how many times I have been told "I have been trained to fight fires" from someone that got burned.
I guess my point was few would be practiced to know how to use an E50 fire suppression stick. Your point is that that "allied safety professional's cause more fires than they put out"? I dunno. I thought I was agreeing that they're not easy to use, but I guess if you want to run it down, go right ahead.

Safety professionals don't fight fires with fire extinguishers. I have a vendetta against those E50 sticks...

I guess I don't understand the first part of your statement (since we tried to train all of our lab techs to be first line fire responders, but maybe not professionals?), but I 100% agree, the fire sticks are hazardous. But that's because fire is pernicious and takes experience. Even a little. I'd say you'd be amazed what some smart people might do, but I assume you do know. It's reflex that matters, and not all fires are equal. A fire trainer (LED board that let's you practice) at least give's somewhat the gist. Otherwise we got a bigger problem on our hands.

Not sure about using this for an underhood fire but I could be convinced 😉 Updated post to show backstory of where all this is derived
Ahhh - that makes sense. But don’t firemen also have axes? 🤪
