I did not find this info in a search, so hopefully this will help someone else in the future:

It can be done.

Today I downloaded a 14 day trial version of Parallels onto a 2020 Mac Mini running an M1 Chip. I was able to download the ProCal program and update it with no drama.

If you're not familiar with it, Parallels let's you run a version of Windows 11 on your Mac, side by side with your normal Mac stuff.

Ford says the unit is supposed to run on Windows 8. I’ve got an older desktop PC running Windows 8 and I was unable to get the ProCal software to connect with the ProCal device, I kept getting a USB Driver error on the PC. I tried different USB cables and different USB ports to no avail. This PC is dedicated to running a wide format printer, and I didn’t want to mess with the USB Drivers as the proprietary software is activated by a USB Key, and I did not want to risk ā€˜bricking’ this computers sole function.

Took a total of about 20 minutes to download Parallels and Windows, and maybe another 5-10 minutes to get the ProCal software downloaded and updated. My Bronco is now calibrated and has the proper tire size programed so my speedo should read correctly now with some bigger than stock tires.

Here’s a link to a free trial of the Parallels software if you’re interested:

Good to know. It sounds like Ford uses good discipline in their programming, for it to work well right out of the box on Windows ARM with the translation layer.

I assume you only need to connect the ProCal to a PC once for the "branding" of your VIN number and from now on, you could just plug the ProCal directly into your Bronco if you want to change the tune or the tire size.

I used boot camp, installed win 10 on my wife’s MacBook and ran FORscan. Zero issues.

I’m sure the ProCal would’ve been the same. My install I used my
Kids PC, just due to time and access to a computer when I wanted to flash the bronco

I just ordered my ProCal tuner a couple days ago, and it hasn’t arrived for me to test.

But I’ve been using Parallels for years. It’s an emulation program and allows you to run a plethora of operating systems on top of the MacOS. I currently have a few different versions of Windows and flavors of Linux installed on my MacBook Pro.

It’s really great for those programs that are OS specific. For me that started as AutoCAD as they stopped making a Mac version, although they have since returned to doing so.

Anyhow as @adam1991 noted, the ARM chips in the latest M processors can be problematic with certain programs. That is true with FORScan. However, this site is a work around that helped me get FORScan to work.

Doesn’t ProCal include the Ford Performance Tune? In other words, is your Bronco now rockin’ the Performance Tune?

No, the performance tune includes the procal. The procal is simply a delivery device. It can be purchased on it's own without the tune.

Yes, I now have the performance tune installed. One brief hiccup with a Check 4x4 warning, cured by the AWD Relearn function. Speedo is reading a bit fast according to GPS, so I’ll need to adjust the revolutions per mile on the tire size a bit to get it dialed in closer.

Did you recently change tire size? Not sure I’d trust GPS over mechanical unless you have reason to do so.

Also when I was researching, there was a blurb about being able to adjust 37’s up to a BFG 37x12.5x17 KO2 (579 revs per mile). Not banging on BFG’s but their ACTUAL sizes run smaller than several other options. Larger diameter than the BFG would result in less revs which means your speedometer would still be off.

I’m not sure if FORScan can go lower than 579 revs as I haven’t tried. But I suspect it might even if the ProCal won’t. I suspect the BFG size limitation is due to the fact that’s the largest tire they have tested, etc because of it being used on the Raptor.

Keep dreaming. I’ve owned many different makes and models of software and almost all tuning related stuff is Windows based.

Don’t take me wrong, I would love a native program I just am not hopeful and certainly not willing to wait. Too many entities have to get onboard in a world that is already set in their ways and technology.

Parallels is a good work around solution, and does work on ARM processors when you use the driver solution I posted upstream. If you have an older Mac with an Intel processor then bootcamp, etc is available too.

Several years back, before ARM processors, I used some other emulation software on my Macs. I *think* it was VMWare by Oracle and it was free. I ran alongside Parallels as I honestly didn’t want to pay for emulation software. The ease and speed of Parallels won me over and I haven’t really looked back since, as for me it was worth the cost. No idea if that’s still available but if not I suspect other alternates exist and maybe some terminal line options as well if you dabble in the Unix interface of MacOS any.

Just not fan of windows as I learned BSD in ā€˜84, then NextSTEP came along. Jobs was a visionary.

Looks like VMware will work for Apple.
It’s a good product, I’ve used it to run Linux on a PC.
Edit: it’s free for personal use.
