Maybe its state by state but its 100% true here in GA. Insurance companies cut the checks to the shops if there is a lien not the customer.

Lol that sucks I'm sorry to hear that.
But yeah. If you don't "own" the car and file through your own insurance, you are 100% correct I believe.
In most cases, there will be 2 names on that check.
However if someone else whacks your car, there is a pretty good chance it is just your name on that check.
Like you said though, could depend on a few factors...state, insurance companies, lien holders, etc...I'm not 100% sure either.

This a tough one for me. I'm OCD and don't buy new stuff often. I saved up and paid cash for this and IDK if I can "just leave it", ya know. Maybe I can, we'll see.

Consider it a blessing to rid yourself of the "loaded diaper" look of the awful plastic bumper. Take the money and get yourself a proper rear bumper.

Believe it not, been almost backed OVER (while walking...) by texting teens three times in parking lots. One girl actually bumped into me, gets out and starts yelling I oughta watch where I'm walking. Reversing at 30mph while lol'ing a TweetTok in a grocery store parking lot is a whole thing.

Of course one time I fell asleep in a drive thru after a 100 hour work week and slowly rolled into a car. No damage and the poor guy seemed more concerned about me than his hoopdy car.

Take the check from her Ins & get whatever rear bumper you want. Unless there's some obvious frame damage.

If you take it in, gonna show up on carfax.

Not painful at all. 5K in damages. The painful part was the 3 month wait for parts.

There should be a law that requires a 90 day license suspension for anyone causing an accident due to texting or being distracted by mobile device.

Good idea. But how could it ever be inforced. Also, our courts would dismiss it as an undue hardship.
