What does the owners manual say that is used for? Sorry I’ve been busy driving my Bronco, not reading all 256 pages of the manual…but thanks for the suggestion.
The one I downloaded is 552 pages. Where do I get the condensed version? ;)

Can anyone tell me if the Ford console vault accessory covers up this feature or is there a cutout at the bottom?
I contacted the manufacturer, referred them to your post, and asked them to respond.

I got the following reply today by email:

If your key fob battery dies, place fob there and it will work anyway, town and country demo’d it on YouTube. Pop out the battery of your fob if you want to try it!
This is not new, Ford has been doing this for years

This is also used for programming of the remote.. if you have 2 remotes then you can program a 3rd and 4th one that you get from ebay for 1/3 the cost of one from the dealership..fyi

Yeah... and the two key requirement is a bummer.

If you ever lose or break one of your two factory-default key fobs (or in my case... a dog decides to chew it up), your only option is to go to a dealership and have them program a new key fob for $350-$400 or so.

I mean, I guess the two key fob requirement makes sense. By requiring two key fobs, you are preventing people from stealing your keys out in public and just programming new keys for you vehicle at-will. But the $350 - $400 price tag is a bit much. Gone are the days of going down to your local locksmith to have him cut a new key for $20.

It's just a cheap trick to prevent stuff from rattling around in there while driving and making a bunch of noise. Ended up making my own out of some spare packing material for my Focus.
I never go to the dealer for a new key fob . . . there are good aftermarket choices. For instance, these folks made a key for me and it looks the same as the OE one, and works fine. Go to https://carkeysexpress.com/store. By way of example, if you have a 2021 Ford F-150, they charge $180 for a new Fob, way cheaper than the dealer. These guys had a mobile van parked outside of Sam's Club. Because they have a relationship with Sam's, after they take your order you actually go into Sam's and make the purchase at their register, so it's legit. Your newly programmed Fob is ready in about 30 minutes (or course you need your vehicle with you).

I found myself in a pickle the Fob wouldnt work. Called my sales guy and he told me to place the fob there and it worked. Battery wasn't dead. Think i was in a spot with interference or something??

If the battery in your key fob is too low to start the Bronco, you place it in that spot and you’ll be able to start it.
Ok…that is actually very helpful. Guess I need to d done reading. 😜
