Thanks for your input. I asked if it was normal for anyone else who purchased them. Are you experiencing this? I’m aware they increased how much powdercoating they put on their steps since my purchase because of this issue and was curious if mine was in that batch. They’re flaking in areas they shouldn’t be.
Mine are fine and they were purchased back during the pre-sale this spring. But my expectations are different than others. If I was driving on gravel roads, I would expect rock chips. With that expectation, I would anticipate preventive maintenance by me from time to time that would entail a rattle-can to cover the chipped powder coat.

Not having anything like this? I’m running mudflaps and don’t have any major rock chips. I’m surprised they are looking like this after 5 months. @IAG Performance these are V2’s from late March

This is a wild one. I don’t think rocks can even chip that area.

I've been running flaps since before I even mounted mine. They still rusted.

I think I paid more like 800 for mine…..
Ah did not notice these were the full runners and not the EZ Steps. Either way pretty terrible craftsmanship at any price point. That is what happens when you cut corners. Used to powder coat back in the day and it took forever for the owner to upgrade systems but once he did the rust problems magically stopped happening and the powder usage/loss improved 20%.

Whether they replace them or not, that’s hours of his life he’s not going to get back. Glad I don’t own this brand.
Thanks for the feedback. Not everyone is our customer and that is okay. We have always strived to put customers and customer service at the forefront of every decision we make internally. While we technically do not warranty the powder coat and this has been displayed clearly on our product pages, we are actively working with everyone who contacts us to come up with a resolution. With any new product, there are bound to be small growing pains but we have made a name for ourselves in the automotive industry by standing behind our work and that will not change with the Bronco community.

seems to me that you (iag)would definitely expose this product to water before putting them out for sale to public. Unacceptable rust after 1 rain storm. No excuse at all. Nobody wants to see rust stains whether you trail run or not at all. That will only become worse. Even the people who got replacements state the new ones are rusting again. No thanks. You say the powder coat isnt warrantied clearly on your product page? Then you should also clearly put on product page that it may start to show signs of rust almost immediately. Right?

The powder coat they are using isn't bonding well or thick enough. I had some of mine come off during warranty service, tech had a rock in shoe and used step...went to the Oregon coast and rusted in a day.

Not everything can fall under the normal "Wear and tear" envelope and sometimes good companies have a warranty issue.
It happens.
The larger two things to take away from any situation are:
1) How they handle it.
2) realistic expectations/performance of the product in its intended use.

In my 30,000 ft view, IAG is a stand-up company that doesn't come across with 4X4Nutz mentality. This SHOULD carry weight.

Most people have this unrealistic view of what powdercoat is (it is NOT Kevlar-impregnated Cerakote) and how difficult in application it can be to get even mil thickness (or even thorough coverage in cracks, crevices and corners "See Faraday cage effect") just due to the nature of how it is applied with electrostatic means.

Overlapping sections of steel will never, ever get Powdercoat coverage. Ever. It is the same issue with Rough Country stuff (Theirs will just start rusting in random places regardless), Poison Spider, DV8, etc. It's just the inherent evil and downside of powder spray.
Wet spray isn't any better.
The ONLY way to prevent this is to seal seam those areas and use an epoxy primer as a base.

Even then, rock chips will happen.
Powdercoat isn't designed to survive re-entry on a Space Shuttle.
It's a protective coating that renders a uniform sheen and a good adhesion factor, slightly better resilience than wet sprayed products.
But it is not bulletproof and never will be.
YMMV.

With all due respect, you are making an assumption or few that we aren't testing the products and that couldn't be farther than the truth. In fact we have 3 sets of steps outside that get sprayed weekly with a salt bath solution to monitor the different variations/changes we have made. The powder coat process has been revised a number of times. The percentage of steps that have exhibited rust stains (that we are aware of) is still under 1% sold. The edge where the tube meets the top plate is the only area that is an issue. We have made changes, and are phasing in a change that should solve it very soon. At the end of the day, this seems to be a combination of a faraday effect where the tube meets the plate and powder coat being thinner on some steps.

In the unfortunate (yet few) situations of rusty steps, we have made it right by every single customer. We have been in business 18 years and have reacted to every difficult situation by taking the high road and making the customers best interest a priority. The lack of warranty on the powder coat is for things like stone chips or scuffs more than anything. This issue is being taken seriously and we are doing our best to both improve the product and make our customers happy.

While this isn't the same issue, and is obviously as a result of an outside influence, it certainly should be more durable than that. I suggest you shoot an email to [email protected] and they will work with you to resolve.
