Jeep said in a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that this isn't the result of a faulty part. Rather, it's a design issue and will be remedied with updated software to reduce engine torque when the clutch assembly's temperature rises too high
That quality Chrysler-Fiat(now Stellantis) engineering at it again. They have always had great designers, but their engineering has seemed like a lower priority to me.

They've realized no one wants a manual trans, so they are upgrading them to automatics. Simple software update.

None of this makes sense. I’m going to assume stop and go driving is causing the heating? Rock crawling? So many questions.

Probably operator failure, but we must be protected from ourselves. From the article..." will be remedied with updated software to reduce engine torque "...I guess that's one way.

These recalls are becoming more and more common nowadays on every vehicle, even for stupid crap.

But the fix is to decrease performance when the clutch plate gets too hot? What causes that? Doesn’t seem like much of a fix.

Meh. Bronco will have these too for the same stupid reasons. I think companies are just scared anymore with lawsuits so they throw out these bulletins on stuff that might affect only a couple cars or it was caused by something dumb the owner did. Not always obviously, they just seem to be standard fare anymore.

So counter-intuitive that a software adjustment can fix a clutch issue, showing once again how dependent new vehicles are on electronic sensors and electronic-to-mechanical converters. And of course the utter reliance on computers.

They’ve had nothing but problems with this recent manual trans. I was watching last year at the beginning of ‘Rona 2020 as Gladiator owners with MT were sitting for months because the trans Grenaded amd they didn’t have parts. A year later they finally acknowledge there’s a problem by not actually acknowledging there’s a problem and reducing engine performance as a solution. 🤔🤦🏻‍♂️😂

Yes, but not really. Basically, they under-engineered the clutch for the new MT, probably to save $. So their "solution" is to reduce the performance (because that won't really cost them much-just some labor) instead of properly fixing the root cause of the issue, which would be a clutch that could hold up to the demands of the powertrain.

Yep, but they can get away with it. Good point, though.

Permanent limp mode for 43,000 Jeeps...

Low hp, heavy vehicle, modern clutch. Less experienced drivers. What could go wrong.
