Decided to build a Jerry can mount after not finding anything currently available. It's made out of steel and I will probably build one out of aluminum to cut down on the weight. It's mounted on a Hammer Built tailgate reinforcement plate and so far so good!

Good spot for one. The weight will not affect the tailgate. Just don’t overbuild it. The weight of the mount shouldn’t exceed the weight of the can full.

What a great point. I’ve been affected by the tailgate weight issue, thinking the only way was a thousand dollar bumper and swing out mount. It might still be a good way to go, but this is at least an option.

This is a good way to beat the weight issue for sure.

I believe RTR makes one, not sure of the price though.

The weight of the mount is exactly 9 pound's less then the can full of petrol, but it probably is over built! I've been running around with it for awhile now, no problems. Taking it to Colorado next week for the get together in Buena Vista so see how it goes.

I ordered this same tail gate reinforcement system for my Bronco now that I'm on 37s, but haven't heard word about it in over a week. I'm glad to see they do exist. Great job on the build as well.

Will the metal rub on the paint causing scratches or dents?

Very nice work.

Most of the off reading near me is fairly easy fire road, so you can go a ways a use a lot of fuel, so this will be my second upgrade. My first upgrade was putting a grab gard windshield film on so I don't break my windshield.

I am doing the same thing this weekend. I have the hammer built brace installed already. I was going to use the mount I fabbed for my JK, but I decided it was too heavy and bulky. The new plan is to reinforce a wavian jerry can holder and add mounting brackets to it to fit up to the hammer built mounting holes. Which brings me to my question, What size bolts did you use to attach to the hammer built brace, and where did your source them?
