I always say, but it's a Ford. It is gatekeeping. It is making something of a sub-standard item to shame and bully unwanted behavior, and it is pretty reprehensible. The effect is turning off intended buyers because the brand is tainted by A-holes. I'd never own a Jeep because my parents are still married is my common refrain, but it is a form of gatekeeping to be sure. But so is the Jeep Wrangler owner base gatekeeping people who never take their rigs off road and chastise with Mall crawler, etc. This thread wreaks of it too. It just is.

Let’s try this again in layman’s terms for those who never worked in the automotive industry…. (Sigh….)
Ford discontinued the Bronco on June 12, 1996 when the last one rolled off the line at Wayne Assembly, never to be built again….. (or so we thought.)

2 years later Ford introduced an entirely new design from the ground up, called the Expedition, a 4 door SUV meant to compete with the Chevy Tahoe. The Expedition was never designed or intended to replace the Bronco. Does that clear this up a little?
Public perception said otherwise, and even buff rags of the day called the Expedition a 4 door Bronco, because for all intentions and purposes, it was, if not in name, in form and execution. You cannot deny that the Expedition was a better Full Size Bronco so much so that when the Expedition arrived, the Centurion 4 door Bronco ceased. It just was a 4 door Bronco. Sorry.

I have to disagree with you here. The Ford Bronco has always been a 2 door wagon. The Expedition, a full size SUV. I guess from a consumers stand point, I can see your argument, but there are tons of 66-96 Bronco owners that will not budge on this. Tomato-tomahto 😂

You and the 66-96 Bronco owners are a vocal minority, and you are entitled to your opinion, but functionally Centurion made a better Bronco and Ford copied it. It sold like flapjacks. Mic drop.

The big issue is that I don't see this happening anytime soon-given the pivot to BEVs in higher end Luxury cars, adding a Lincoln Bronco would make no sense, nor would it mesh with its "quiet luxury" marketing it has. We aren't going to see a BEV Bronco till 2030 anyways. MAP will be maxed out with Bronco and 2024 Ranger production for the foreseeable future.

The best use case would be a Bronco Platinum model with a better interior materials and seats.
I agree, a Platinum trim level. Our '22 Expedition is a Platinum trim, and we love it. I don't see the need for the Bronco to go to Lincoln.

The Lincoln knock-off Bronco concept with a fixed acrylic sky roof isn't a terrible idea. The reason the 5G got killed in favor of the expedition was the 5G had an unwieldy roof that was for all intents and purposes non removable. Very few 6G Bronco or Wrangler hard top owners ever remove that back clamshell anyway. It's difficult to remove, requires two people, and a place to store it. Make a fixed roof/door version aimed at the Grand Wagoneer/G Wagon as someone else pointed to and whamo, money maker with fewer moving parts and a quiet interior.

As a soft top owner, I'd love improved cargo access. I want the Jeep Sky Active one-touch top for my Bronco with removable glass in the back. Until then, I'm rocking the stagecoach look and smiling every good weather day just flipping it open. Taking the doors off is still intimidating for me. I'll get the courage together by April.

From what I can see the Expedition was unveiled on May 9, 1996 and went on sale in October of 96 as a 97 Model, so not exactly 2 years later.

While purists will argue the Expedition wasn't a direct replacement for the bronco, it basically was. The bronco was the full size SUV in Ford's line up. Bronco goes bye bye insert Expedition as full size SUV in line up. Just like the Tahoe replaced the Blazer (now Tahoe kept it's two door version around for a bit)

Oh look at this!

The Expedition, available only as a four-door, replaces the Bronco for 1997 and is available in two- and four-wheel-drive models.

If you really want to get pedantic about the full size SUV thing, don't forget about the Ford Excursion, which was even bigger then the Expedition and came out in 1999

True, I am just sticking to 1996 right now lol. Bronco goes away leaving Ford with no full size SUV in it's line up = enter Expedition Ford's new Full Size SUV.

The goes even bigger to fight Suburban with the Excursion - edited

Right and I agree with...but someone doesn't, even though apparently they worked for Ford...

If I could find the transcripts for the Bring Back Bronco podcast (which was Ford supported), they speak about the Expedition replacing the Bronco back then and trying to find way to bring it back after it died in 1996.

Depending where you get your info, I’d love to argue this. You see, I was on the launch team for that body style, and I can tell you for a fact that we were working over the Christmas holiday to get the F series out for a Super Bowl launch. Yes, the round (PN-96) did come out around that time frame, but the Expedition was a model year later due to manufacturing demand and different interior parts. And once again, the Bronco is a wagon, not an SUV 😂

Would an official Ford press release for monthly sales work for you?

Last year, Ford set an industry record for October truck sales, paced by
the all-new F-150 pickup and Expedition (which was introduced on October 2,
1996).

And yet again:

We can get into the semantics debate if you want lol but I'll let other people do that. My insurance classifies my bronco as a Utility so SUV lol.

But back to the Expedition, here's some sources that state the expedition was launched in 96, internal code UN93

" The all-new full-size SUV was unveiled on May 9, 1996 and launched on October 2, 1996 as a 1997 model. It replaced the aging two-door Ford Bronco. The XLT was the base model. The Expedition featured optional three row seating, first row captains chair seating, available second row captains chair seating, leather seating surfaces, illuminated running boards, heated side view mirrors, power moon roof, dual zone climate control and Ford’s Mach audio sound system with rear subwoofer. Many of these features were standard on the Eddie Bauer version. "
