Metal Hard Top?

I’m gonna start with saying I have no experience with the metal hard top generation. only Blazers and Jimmys with the fiberglass hard tops.

Does it not make sense to make a metal hard top any more? Sorta modular 1 ie 2 Roof panel and 3 panels that have the windows?

I would think a properly engineered aluminum top could be both strong and light. For myself a simple one piece semi permanent top would be great as I don't care about topless use.

I'd love to see FORD have a fixed top option in the near future. Keep the sports bars. But fix, the water leaks, no air/noise issues. For the folks who want Expedition quietness, with the off roadiness, of the Bronco as we know it... I can see ford having.less warranty work on those.. and it's a great option for.probably 25-40% of the folks needing a daily driver.

If you collected enough aluminum cans and have access to a high temp smelter you can shape your own metal roof.

Or just buy some sheet al or steel and an English wheel and shape your own. Without glass in it a corrugated "tin" roof (think truck cap) won't weigh anyore than soft top with its hardware

How heavy were the hard tops for the first generation? I get they were quite a bit smaller. More of a curiosity than anything else.
