I'm old and fat, and when Ford targeted the JL Wrangler platform as a direct competitor, they missed what is perhaps the single most important thing for old and fat guys like me... a proper grab handle to hoist myself in and out of the darn thing :( I get the side curtain airbags are for safety and that trumps entry/egress ergonomics, but they really could have taken a few more hours and come up with something. Heck I'm just an old pharmer, and I did...

If you’re in a wreck, well… let’s just say you better have your will made out and/or a good Long Term Care insurance policy.
That is true, but could wrap it in something protective. Very creative though.

Before someone says “The seat belt is supposed to keep the driver from hitting their head on it,” let me get out ahead of that idea a little bit. I studied G-forces and occupant protection in college, had the privilege to sit and have at-length one-on-one discussions with Colonel John Stapp (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Stapp), and did consulting with a major auto maker on crash safety — the seat belts are made from a material & weave which are designed to DECELERATE your body as gently as possible by giving & stretching a little, thereby reducing peak G-forces. In doing so, they do allow some excursion. This is where airbags & interior surfaces that are forgiving come in.

Mounting a claymore by your head, even if it is wrapped in a little foam, flies in the face of decades of hard-learned lessons & millions of dollars in research.

Come on, look closely. It's next to the airbag, not over it.

Somehow my tundra had grab handles where ford said they can't.

Oh, look at you with all your facty-facts! /s

OP, I will admit that that does look like good work. However, I'm in agreement with the angry mob with the torches and pitchforks here. That placement is straight up dangerous.

What's wrong with these - they don't interfere with the Airbags and are nice and soft for your noggin (I know because I graze this every time I get in and out)? Also - not terribly expensive and use the available 'Accessory Ready' screws.

Those are decent but in the wrong location to hoist yourself in. We have those too. Only good for hanging your arm while you drive.

The wife makes GOOD use of these hoisting herself in and out. I'm glad I got 'em.

Too far rearward for us. OP has the right idea with location but not material.
