So what is the big update?
Ahh man...Thought maybe I could get away without posting in this thread since it was on the front page new section for a few days.OP said he had an update

Thanks to OP i installed this as soon as my Bronco arrived.Being a photographer I am immersed in the world of all things "camera". And in the photography world, there are many who also shoot video with their cameras. Those who do often use what we call a shark cage to protect their gear, but also allow the addition of accessories. Things like monitors, mics, handles, and more.
Among this world of shark cage options are several addon plates that I thought may work for an affordable BYOD system.
Today my first BYOD piece arrived. It is an accessory plate for shark cages from a company called Camvate (link: https://amzn.to/3p6J7a0 ) and it is approx. 6.1" long by 1.3" wide. It has a center slot for adjusting its lateral position on your mount, and a series of 1/4-20 threaded holes along each side of that slot. It comes with (2) button head 1/4-20 bolts to secure it to the dash mount and a pair of extra 1/4-20 bolts for whatever.
I'll be mounting my GoPro using a basic GoPro tripod mount (link: https://amzn.to/3vdRPnY )

and these (link: https://amzn.to/3FPKlww ) male-to-male 1/4-20 adapters.

So far total expenses are about $26
I am also going to be adding a solar-powered battery bank (link: https://amzn.to/2YRDZvo ) to the cubby right in front of the mount since I only have the high package and no accessory ports up top. Short USB cables to power the GoPro and Phone oughta keep things fairly tidy, and the battery bank should stay charged pretty much on its own. The dimensions on Amazon if accurate mean this thing will fit nice and snug in that spot.

I also ordered some rubber bumper feet (Link: https://amzn.to/3aDjhlI ) in case I think it may need some vibration dampening, but so far this thing is rigid!

I'll come back and add more photos as it progresses but thought some people might like this as a lower-cost option for a BYOD.

If I was to use this mounting plate, but get a straight arm (like a Ram mount) would you mind measuring how long it would need to be?Thanks to OP i installed this as soon as my Bronco arrived.

No real complaints so far.Heck yeah!!!
Let me know how you like it.
I figured for me, I didn't need a rail ALL THE WAY across my dash...Looks like you didn't either.
Happy trails boss!
You want measurement from plate to phone mounted position? If I was to use this mounting plate, but get a straight arm (like a Ram mount) would you mind measuring how long it would need to be?
Yes, please! From where the arm is screwed into the plate to the phone mount. You want measurement from plate to phone mounted position?
Measuring straight from mounting point to center of phone mount is 8.5” on mine.Yes, please! From where the arm is screwed into the plate to the phone mount.
Mine is still going strong with no issues at all. And I was the first one to do it lol. I suppose depending on how other people's vehicles were built it may vary?Hello all,
There have been a number of people complaining about the mounting bolt in the dash coming loose. I wonder if those arms will put enough strain on the bolt to advance the 'damage'? On road driving, perhaps not as much of an issue... but some have complained that simply having a GoPro mounted on a really bumpy road has loosened the bolt.
Anyone notice this yet?

If it’s a rail system you can’t live without, just add some loctite to the screw.Hello all,

I ordered one of these and am impressed…it seems to be good quality. I need to get a magnetic phone mount that works with it (and a bronco) and I’m set!
