The 2.3L is definitely working hard to push those tires.
Hmmm…guy who took delivery of the 2 door carb gray basesquatch on here said he was pleasantly surprised with the 2.3/10 speed. Possibly a frame-of-reference issue. What vehicle are you coming from?

Just drove it at Capital Ford in Raleigh. Can confirm that it was indeed a manual.

Loved it. No longer considering the Defender.
Just set up my appointment! Thanks for the info

My experience with the auto 2.3 SQ was nothing like the OP mentioned. Maybe the manual is radically different, but it sounds like some short shifting? I didn’t feel the transmission hunt nor did it feel underpowered. It also had the 35s, so smaller and lighter than the BL mentioned.

The mansquatch will have lower gears, 5.13 maybe?

That is a great looking bronco.
5.13 would get Mansquatch back to the same gearing as base.

The 4.7 ratio on the Badlands manual isn’t quite there, it could use 4.88. The 4.7 does get it geared lower than the Black Diamond, so probably good enough.

I would like to see a couple of the tire companies make some tall and skinny tires (255/80R17) that are C rated instead of E rated.

I think each driver’s opinion of the 2.3 is going to vary based on what they’re used to driving. A 5000 lb vehicle on 35s is asking a lot from that engine, but i think it will all come down to expectations.

Why does N. VA always get the nice things first? It’s like SE VA is the red headed step child!

Besides no mansquatch also no turbos, 2.3 is a single. 2.7 is twin.

Has 5.13 been confirmed for mansquatch?

According to the tire size/gear charts I've seen, 4.70 is too much for 33s but fine for 35s. 5.13 would be better for 37s.

Not confirmed. 5.13 was listed in the accessories catalog a while back. Also, 5.38. See page 4 of this thread. Could be for the Warthog though.

Thanks for the info. Trying to figure a couple of things out about the mansquatch. First, will it be offered on the base 4 door? Base 4 door currently does not offer the manual. Second, is the cost. Since it is not a cost protected option who knows! I know we do not have these answers yet and currently feel good with my Big Bend order...for now!

Has 5.13 been confirmed for mansquatch?
Nothing confirmed, I was saying that based on 4.46 gearing in the Base, 5.13 would get the ratio correct for 35” with the manual.

According to the tire size/gear charts I've seen, 4.70 is too much for 33s but fine for 35s. 5.13 would be better for 37s.
The Bronco manual has both 5th (.776:1) and 6th (.646:1) gears as overdrives, when that chart was developed most trucks were running a single .85:1 overdrive at best and were starting with 3.55 gears. Since the Bronco is starting with 4.46 gears on the base with 30” tires, the calculator I posted the results from calls for 5.1 gears to match. 5.38 would be the correct ratio for 37” tires.

The gearing on the auto trans is lower on the bottom (minus crawler) and higher on the top. That 4.714:1 first gear in the auto transmission makes it work with 3.73 gears in the base model. The Sasquatch with the automatic is geared at 4.7, whereas the calculator only recommends a 4.26 axle is needed for the tire size. Maybe the Mansquatch really needs the 5.38 for just the 35” tires.

This guy that just drove an identical twin to OP's tester can confirm to you that there's no lack of power with the 2.3L.
