I am thinking about painting the plastic hardtop white. How durable is paint over plastic? Any recommendations?

Not sure about the Bronco hardtop, but paint stuck to my CJ hardtop like grim death. I actually used white acrylic house paint on part of the inside, (to cover up stuff myself and friends wrote on it), and that paint would not come off. I think because the surface was not smooth and accepted paint well.

I wonder if the Bronco surface (inside or out) is smooth enough for something like vinyl wrap? That could be a nice way to try a color, without being stuck with it, and also provide some surface protection.

Look at all the plastic bumper and shrouding on any car or even motorcycles and AztVs nd you will see painted plastic everywhere.

It all starts with specific primers for the types of plastic and usually involves smooth surfaces.

You will want to sand the top before the primer and follow all directions .
You may wish to farm this out to a body shop familiar with plastics and fiberglass

I had mine wrapped and it is pretty bad up close in spots, will probably get it painted at some point.

My recommendation: take it off your bronco before painting it. :p

My son owns a body shop and has had requests to paint the tops, His PPG rep told him not to paint them yet as no one has a product to stay adhered well to the surface yet. It won't last. Jim.

That's interesting Jim. I'll hold off painting it. My 2023 MIC top is smooth.
